BA46 HIT A JETWAY WHILE BEING MARSHALED INTO THE GATE.
Narrative
I WAS THE FO ON THE FLT TO MEM. UPON ENTERING THE RAMP; THE MARSHALER STOPPED US PRIOR TO PROCEEDING TO THE GATE. AT THIS TIME; IT WAS APPARENT WE HAD WING WALKERS; AND THE MARSHALER BEGAN LEADING US IN AGAIN. JUST PRIOR TO THE MARSHALER XING HIS WANDS; OUR #2 ENG IMPACTED THE JET BRIDGE. WING WALKERS WERE PRESENT; HOWEVER; THE WING WALKER ON THE DAMAGED SIDE WAS NOT IN VIEW OF THE MARSHALER. THE MARSHALER WAS UNAWARE OF OUR PROX TO THE JET BRIDGE. I ARRIVE AT THIS CONCLUSION BECAUSE THE RATE OF CLOSURE SHOWN BY HIS WANDS WERE NORMAL. DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ACFT STRUCK THE JET BRIDGE; IT MAY IDENT THAT ACR Y AIRLINE PERSONNEL ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH OUR ACFT. STANDARD OPERATING PROCS WERE FOLLOWED; AND WING WALKERS WERE PRESENT. (SOP WAS FOLLOWED BY US; THE CREW.) GIVEN THE FACT THE WING WALKER WAS WELL HIDDEN BEHIND THE JET BRIDGE; THIS COMPLETELY PROHIBITED THE MARSHALER FROM ANY COM WITH THE WING WALKER WHICH COULD HAVE POSSIBLY PREVENTED THIS FROM HAPPENING. SINCE THIS INCIDENT; IT HAS BECOME APPARENT THAT THE WING WALKERS HAVE BEEN REPOSITIONED. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL PREVENT ANY FURTHER ACFT DAMAGE IN THE FUTURE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 583440: THE MARSHALER PROCEEDED TO PARK US TOO DEEP IN THE SLOT; CAUSING THE #2 ENG NACELLE TO STRIKE THE JET BRIDGE.
