Narrative
THE COMPANY HAS INSTITUTED A 'NO CHECK' INSPECTION POLICY UNDER WHICH UNDOCUMENTED VISUAL CHECKS ARE BEING SUBSTITUTED FOR THE CHECK SHEET WITH SIGNOFF FOR EACH ITEM. THE POLICY IS VERY CONFUSING AND LEAVES THE MECHANIC IN A POSITION WHERE HE IS UNABLE TO DOCUMENT THAT HE HAS PROPERLY ACCOMPLISHED A MAINT FUNCTION. IN ADDITION; THE DIRECTIVE DOES NOT GIVE ADEQUATE GUIDANCE AS TO WHAT THE MECHANIC IS ACTUALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR. THIS 'NO CHECK' CHECK IS CONFUSING AND; TO THE EXTENT IT REQUIRES PERFORMANCE OF MAINT WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION; INCONSISTENT WITH THE FAR'S. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE CARRIER HAS PUT IN PLACE A NEW POLICY CALLED 'NO CHECK' INSPECTION. THE RPTR SAID THE NARROW BODY FORTY HR CHECKS AND WIDE BODY FIFTY HR CHECKS WILL BE PERFORMED WITHOUT A PAPERWORK CHECK SHEET WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON WHAT TO CHECK AND A SIGNOFF FOR THE ACCOMPLISHED CHECK. THE RPTR STATED THIS OPENS UP A CONFUSING SITUATION ON WHAT SHOULD BE CHECKED AND GIVES NO GUIDANCE ON WHAT THE TECHNICIAN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR AND NO RECORD OF ACCOMPLISHMENT. THE RPTR SAID THIS POLICY IS IN FACT PERFORMING MAINT WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION.
