Narrative

ON THE GND AT VNY I CALLED CLRNC DELIVERY XA30 LCL FOR AN IFR (TEC)TWR ENRTE CLRNC FLT TO ONT. I REQUESTED THE BUR L6 RTE AND WAS CLRED AS REQUESTED. THE DEP RWY WAS RWY 16R; NO DEP HEADING WAS INCLUDED IN MY CLRNC. I REFERRED TO THE OBSTACLE DEP PROC IN MY COMMERCIAL PLATES WHICH FOR RWY 16R STATE 'A CLBING L TURN TO INTERCEPT VNY 095 DEG RADIAL TO DARTS INTXN. ALL ACFT EBOUND VIA V-186 CLB ON COURSE.' IN THE ABSENCE OF ANY INITIAL HEADING INSTRUCTIONS FROM CLRNC DELIVERY AND FROM VNY TWR; I DEPARTED ACCORDING TO THE OBSTACLE DEP PROC MENTIONED ABOVE. ON CLBOUT; AFTER MAKING THE INITIAL TURN TO THE L AND SWITCHING TO SOCAL; SOCAL REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE R TURN TO 180 DEG HDG. I QUERIED THE CTLR AS TO WHETHER I HAD USED THE CORRECT DEP AND HE GAVE ME A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL. ON LNDG AT ONT; I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE REQUESTED NUMBER AND EXPLAINED THE SIT. I WAS TOLD THE SUPVR WOULD BE REVIEWING THE TAPES. THEY ASKED FOR MY PHONE NUMBER AND SAID THEY WOULD CALL BACK. LATER IN THE AFTERNOON; THAT SAME DAY; I CALLED ONT CLRNC DELIVERY FOR AN IFR TEC FLT TO SNA. I REQUESTED THE ONT L8 RTE AND WAS CLRED AS REQUESTED. THIS TIME I QUERIED CLRNC DELIVERY; AFTER COPYING THE CLRNC; AND ASKED FOR THE HEADING ON DEP (RWY 26L). I WAS GIVEN 255 DEGS TO INTERCEPT V-363; THEN V8 SLI. I FLEW 3 TEC LEGS IN MY BONANZA. ON OBTAINING CLRNCS; ONLY IN 1 CASE WAS I GIVEN AN INITIAL HEADING TO FLY ON CLBOUT. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND ALL TEC CLRNCS INCLUDE INITIAL DEP HEADING INSTRUCTIONS.
