PLT OF SMA MISJUDGED HIS POS RELATIVE TO THE EXPANDED P-49 PROHIBITED AREA AND WAS INTERCEPTED BY 2 F16 JETS WHEN HE ENTERED.

Narrative

I WAS PIC AND WAS AWARE OF THE EXPANDED P-49 TFR TO 30 MI RADIUS AND RADIO. AFTER TKOF A FREQ OF 121.5 WAS MONITORED. SHORTLY; 2 F-16 MIL ACFT APCHED FROM THE E AND FLEW FORMATION WITH MY ACFT. I ATTEMPTED COM ON 121.5 WITH NO SUCCESS. I WAS THEN CONTACTED BY GRAY APCH ON 121.5. THEY ADVISED CONTACT ON ANOTHER FREQ. CONTACT WAS MADE AND THEY ADVISED ME TO TURN TO A HDG OF 270 DEGS. I IMMEDIATELY COMPLIED AND ADVISED OUR DEST OF HORSESHOE BAY. A SHORT TIME LATER; I WAS CLRED DIRECT TO HORSESHOE BAY. I WAS THEN DIRECTED TO CALL THEM ON LNDG AND REMAIN AT THE TERMINAL FOR CONTACT WITH SECRET SVC AGENTS. THE AGENTS ARRIVED AND CONDUCTED A PERSONAL INTERVIEW WITH ME AND MY PAX. WE WERE THEN RELEASED. ASSESSMENT: NAV AROUND TFR (P-49); IS DIFFICULT ON THE NW QUADRANT DUE TO LACK OF NAVAIDS AND IDENTIFIABLE LANDMARKS. A WESTERLY WIND CONTRIBUTED TO MAKING A GND TRACK FURTHER TO THE E OF OUR INTENDED FLT PATH. IN ADDITION; LACK OF TIMELY COM ON 121.5; UNTIL VERY CLOSE TO THE EXPANDED TFR CONTRIBUTED TO THE ALLEGED TFR INCURSION.
