A T337 SINGLE PLT MADE AN UNINTENTIONAL GEAR UP LNDG AT BRO WHILE BEING DISTR BY THE CONSEQUENCES OF AN EJECTED EMER ESCAPE WINDOW.
Narrative
WHILE TAKING OFF IN BROWNSVILLE; TX; FOR A DVFR FLT TO MEXICO; AT AN ALT OF APPROX 300 FT AND WHILE STILL OVER THE RWY; MY GRANDSON PULLED THE EMER RELEASE HANDLE; EJECTING THE EMER ESCAPE WINDOW. I CONTINUED MY CLB TO 700 FT WHILE TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE CTL TWR. THEY COULD HEAR ME; BUT I COULD NOT HEAR THEM VERY WELL -- DUE TO THE AIR ENTERING THE OPEN WINDOW. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS; I WAS ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THAT I WAS CLRED TO LAND. I DID NOT LOWER THE GEAR AS I WOULD NORMALLY ON THE DOWNWIND LEG AND WITH THE CONFUSION OF TRYING TO WATCH OUT FOR MY GRANDSON AND FLY THE PLANE UNDER THESE ADVERSE CONDITIONS; I FORGOT TO LOWER THE LNDG GEAR AS PLANNED ON FINAL. THE PLANE IS EQUIPPED WITH A LUGGAGE POD WHICH ABSORBED ALL OF THE STRESS WITH MINOR SCRAPING ON THE BOTTOM. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THE ACFT RECEIVED NO DAMAGE WHATSOEVER FROM THE LNDG. THERE WAS NO PROP STRIKE; NOR FUSELAGE CONTACT WITH THE SURFACE. WE WERE ABLE TO JACK THE PLANE UP AND LOWER THE GEAR AND TAXI OFF THE RWY. A MECH REPLACED THE ESCAPE WINDOW AND SPOKE WITH THE FAA AND RECEIVED A FERRY PERMIT TO FLY THE PLANE HOME.
