C172 STUDENT PLT AT ADS MISUNDERSTANDS ATC CLRNC AND ENTERS RWY RESULTING IN GAR.

Narrative

I WAS A STUDENT PLT ON A SOLO TRAINING FLT. I TAXIED TO RWY 33 TO DO MY RUN-UP. AFTER MY RUN-UP; I CONTACTED ADDISON TWR FOR INSTRUCTIONS. THE TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO HOLD SHORT OF THE RWY 33 AT TXWY A. I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND ATC; SO I CALLED HIM TO REPEAT THE INSTRUCTION. ATC REPEATED 'HOLD SHORT OF RWY 33.' I REPEATED THE INSTRUCTION TO ATC; BUT MISINTERPRETED THE INSTRUCTION AS MEANING TO 'TAXI ONTO RWY 33 AND HOLD.' SO; AFTER REPEATING THE INSTRUCTION TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 33; I PROCEEDED TO TAXI ONTO RWY 33 AND HOLD. AFTER A FEW SECONDS A PLANE WAS CLRED TO LAND; AND THE PLANE THAT WAS CLRED TO LAND ASKED ATC IF THE PLANE ON THE RWY (WHICH WAS ME) WAS GOING TO TAKE OFF. THEN; ATC INSTRUCTED THAT PLANE TO GO AROUND. THEN ATC INFORMED ME OF MY MISTAKE; CLRED ME FOR TKOF; AND ASKED ME TO CALL ATC UPON MY RETURN TO ADDISON. THE CAUSE OF THE PROB WAS MY MISINTERP OF THE INSTRUCTION FROM ATC. I HEARD CLRLY WHAT ATC SAID; JUST MISUNDERSTOOD BECAUSE HE GAVE ME THE INSTRUCTION IN A DIFFERENT 'PHRASEOLOGY' THAN I AM USED TO. I LEARNED; THAT IF EVER THERE IS A DOUBT TO NOT ONLY WHAT ATC SAID; BUT ALSO BY WHAT THEY MEANT; THAT I SHOULD BECOME CRYSTAL CLR OF ATC'S INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE TAXIING ONTO AN ACTIVE RWY OR TXWY. THIS GOES FOR BOTH ON THE GND; WHILE FLYING THE PATTERN AND ANYWHERE ELSE.
