Narrative
MY PAX AND I WERE ABOUT 3 MI NW OF SDL WHEN WE INITIALLY CONTACTED DVT ON 118.4. THE CTLR; UPON HEARING OUR REQUEST; TOLD US WE WERE CLOSER TO A DIRECTLY E POS; SO SHE CLRED US FOR A STRAIGHT-IN APCH TO RWY 25L. WE WERE TOLD TO RPT AT CAVE CREEK ROAD. WE INFORMED THE CTLR THAT WE PARK ON THE N SIDE; AND ASKED IF WE COULD USE THE N RWY; RWY 25R. SHE TOLD US TO SWITCH OUR APCH TO RWY 25R AND CONTACT THE TWR ON 120.2. WE SWITCHED FREQS AND IMMEDIATELY ENCOUNTERED A PLETHORA OF RADIO TFC. AMIDST ALL OF THE CHATTER WE HEARD THE TWR CONTACT AN ACFT Z PLANE TO INFORM THEM OF A CESSNA ON FINAL (US). THEY ASKED IF THE ACFT Z PLANE COULD ALTER THEIR APCH TO RWY 25L AND AT THIS TIME THE ACFT Z FLT RESPONDED THAT THEY COULD SEE US AND THAT THEY WOULD ALTER THEIR APCH. WHEN THE RADIO TFC CALMED DOWN I FINALLY GOT A CHANCE TO RPT THAT I WAS JUST PAST CAVE CREEK. THEY CLRED ME TO LAND AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT THE PIPER PASSED DIRECTLY OVERHEAD AT AROUND 100 FT OF SEPARATION FROM OUR PLANE. IT WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO SCARE BOTH MY PAX AND I; AND WE'RE NOT EASILY FRIGHTENED. WE BOTH FIGURED THAT BECAUSE HE HAD SEEN US EARLIER HE WOULD HAVE TRIED TO DIVERT A LITTLE EARLIER. OUR LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER WE HAD SECURED THE PLANE WE CALLED THE TWR. THE PERSON THAT ANSWERED SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T SEE THE ALTERCATION; BUT THEY WOULD CHK INTO IT.
