DUE TO AN OVERHEAT WARNING ON #2 BATTERY A DO328-300 FERRY FLT DECLARES AN INFLT EMER AND DIVERTS TO GSP; SC.
Narrative
ONLY THE CAPT AND I WERE ABOARD FOR REPOSITION FLT FROM CVG TO CAE. CRUISING AT FL230 ABOUT 100 NM NW OF CAE; WE GOT A BATTERY #2 OVERHEAT WARNING. WE COMPLIED WITH THE CHKLIST (TURN THE BATTERY OFF AND CONTINUE IF INDICATION STOPS WITHIN 2 MINS; WHICH IT DID) AND CONTINUED. A FEW MINS LATER; THE WARNING BEGAN TO INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE AGAIN WITH THE BATTERY STILL OFF. THE CAPT COORDINATED WITH DISPATCH AND MAINT AS I DECLARED AN EMER; REQUESTED A DSCNT AND CLRNC TO GSP; WHICH AT THAT POINT WAS ABOUT 30 NM SW OF US. WE COMPLETED A NORMAL DSCNT/APCH CHK AND LANDED AT GSP IN CALM/CLR WX WITH CFR EQUIP STANDING BY (AND THE BATTERY WARNING STILL ILLUMINATING INTERMITTENTLY). WE TAXIED CLR OF THE RWY AND CONTACTED TWR TO INFORM THEM WE WOULD BE EVACING. THE CAPT RAN THE EVAC CHKLIST AND THE 2 OF US EXITED THE AIRPLANE UNEVENTFULLY THROUGH THE MAIN DOOR AROUND XA00. CFR INSPECTED THE AIRPLANE; SAID THE BATTERY DID NOT FEEL HOT AND SAID WE COULD TAXI IN IF WE LIKED; BUT WE DECIDED TO HAVE STATION PERSONNEL TOW THE AIRPLANE INSTEAD. MAINT ARRIVED SEVERAL HRS LATER; CHANGED THE BATTERY; AND WE CONTINUED TO CAE.
