IT IS RPTED THAT PLTS ARE SLEEPING IN THE COCKPIT ON 2 PERSON CREWS SCHEDULED OVER THE N ATLANTIC IN ORDER TO BE ALERT FOR ARR PROCS.

Narrative

I CERTAINLY HOPE THAT FLT OPS REALIZES THAT SOME PLT CREW MEMBERS; WHO HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED TO 2-MAN OPS OVER THE N ATLANTIC; HAVE BEEN MAKING BEDS ON THE FLOOR BEHIND THE SEATS TO TAKE A NAP WHILE ENRTE OVER THE N ATLANTIC. ON SOME OCCASIONS; IT HAS BEEN MENTIONED THAT BOTH PLT CREW MEMBERS FELL ASLEEP. I HAVE NOT BEEN A CREW MEMBER PARTICIPANT IN THIS UNSAFE PROCESS. MY KNOWLEDGE OF THESE EVENTS IS THE RESULT OF OVERHEARING PLT CONVERSATIONS IN THE BAR AT THE LAYOVER HOTEL. I DO NOT SPECIFICALLY KNOW THE NAMES/IDENTITIES OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO MADE THE REMARKS. I ONLY KNOW THAT IT IS HAPPENING ON A REGULAR BASIS. IT IS UNSAFE. THE TRAVELING PUBLIC WOULD MOST PROBABLY BE VERY UNNERVED IF THIS WERE TO BE PUBLICLY DIVULGED BY SOMEONE. THE TIGHT SCHEDULING OF 3-ON/2-OFF AND THE RESULTANT 88 HR MONTHLY SCHEDULES THAT DISRUPTS THE CIRCADIAN RHYTHM CYCLE; IT WOULD APPEAR; MAKES THIS PROCESS NECESSARY FOR PLT AWARENESS/SURVIVAL IN THE TERMINAL AREA. I HAVE NOTICED THAT A LOT OF PLTS ARE MUCH MORE CONCERNED ABOUT AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY THAN THEY ARE ABOUT INDUSTRY FINANCIAL HEALTH.
