Narrative
THIS VIOLATION WAS FLYING THROUGH THE NEWPORT; IN; TFR. I HAD OBTAINED A BRIEFING PRIOR TO MY VFR DEP EARLIER IN THE DAY THROUGH DUATS; BUT I FAILED TO PICK UP ON THE NEWPORT TFR. MY ORIGINAL DEP POINT THAT DAY WAS MARSHALL; MO; ENRTE TO MUNCIE; IN; WITH A PLANNED FUEL STOP IN DECATUR; IL. AFTER THE BRIEFING AND PLOTTING MY RTE ON MY SECTIONALS; I DON'T BELIEVE MY RTE WOULD HAVE TAKEN ME THROUGH THE NEWPORT TFR; EITHER ON THE WAY TO MUNCIE; OR MY RETURN TRIP HOME THAT EVENING FROM MUNCIE TO MARSHALL. DEPARTING FROM MUNCIE; IN; MY INTENDED RTE WAS TO MARHSHALL; MO; (MHL) WITH A PLANNED FUEL STOP IN SPRINGFIELD; IL; ON A HEADING OF 270 DEGS. BECAUSE THE SUN WAS DIRECTLY IN MY FACE; I DIVERTED AND FLEW A HEADING OF 260 DEGS. I THINK BECAUSE OF THIS MORE SOUTHWESTERLY HEADING; IS WHY I ENTERED THE NEWPORT TFR. IT WAS ONLY AFTER I TOOK OFF FROM MUNCIE; THAT I DIVERTED SLIGHTLY TO THE SW IN ORDER TO GAIN BETTER VISIBILITY DUE TO THE SUNLIGHT AT THAT TIME OF THE DAY ON THAT HEADING. WITH THIS KNOWLEDGE I NOW HAVE; IF I HAD IT TO DO OVER; I WOULD PAY MORE ATTN TO THE TFR'S FROM THE BRIEFING; THAT WOULDN'T NECESSARILY BE IN MY DIRECT RTE; BUT NEAR MY RTE; AND PLOT THOSE ON MY SECTIONAL SO THAT IF A DIVERSION WAS NECESSARY; I WOULD KNOW THEY WERE THERE AND WOULD BE A FACTOR. ANOTHER STEP I COULD HAVE TAKEN; WOULD HAVE BEEN TO OBTAIN FLT FOLLOWING. (WHICH I DID ON THE FINAL LEG OF MY TRIP THAT DAY FROM SPRINGFIELD; IL; TO MARSHALL; MO.)
