C172 STUDENT PLT; ON FIRST SOLO XCOUNTRY FLT; ENTERED CLASS D AIRSPACE AND THEN HAD AN NMAC WITH AN ACFT IN THE PATTERN.

Narrative

STUDENT WAS ON SOLO XCOUNTRY TO MCN. ENRTE; STUDENT HAD RADIO PROB; AND WAS UNABLE TO CONTACT APCH. WHEN HE GOT THE RADIOS WORKING; HE HAD INADVERTENTLY PENETRATED CLASS D AIRSPACE. HE CONTACTED TWR AND WAS GIVEN CLRNC TO LAND. BEFORE HE CONTACTED TWR; HE HAD GOTTEN WITHIN 200 FT OF ANOTHER ACFT ACCORDING TO THE TWR. AFTER HE LANDED AND WAS READY TO TAKE OFF; HE RECEIVED HIS CLRNC AND WAS TOLD A DEP FREQ. HE GOT CONFUSED AND SWITCHED OVER TO THIS FREQ EARLY. HE THEN DEPARTED; WHILE TALKING TO TWR AND DEPARTED WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENTS. HE MADE IT SAFELY BACK. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED ACCORDING TO TWR WHO CALLED ME AND MY STUDENT. I GOT THE STORY FROM MY STUDENT AND THEN PROCEEDED TO DO SOME REMEDIAL TRAINING ABOUT AIRSPACE; AND ON THE NEXT FLT WILL BE GOING TO DO SOME REMEDIAL TRAINING IN CTLED AIRSPACE AND RADIO COMS. WITH TALKING TO STUDENT; HE EXPLAINED THAT HE HAD HAD RADIO PROBS. THE PROBS HE DESCRIBED I HAD EXPERIENCED EARLIER THAT DAY. TOLD OWNER OF PLANE; AND HAVING RADIOS LOOKED AT.
