Narrative
ENG #1 FIRE ON TAXI IN FLG. SEQUENCE OF EVENTS AS I RECALL THEM. STARTED #2 ENG. STARTED #1 ENG; HUNG START; SHUT DOWN #1 ENG; FUEL COCK; BOOST PUMPS; ALTERNATOR AND GENERATOR. TAXIED ON #2 ENG TO PERFORM XBLEED START ON #1 ENG FOR HIGHER MANIFOLD PRESSURE. ABOUT 20 SECONDS INTO TAXI; TWR NOTIFIED US OF SMOKE FROM #1 ENG. I CONTINUED THE TAXI WHILE MOTORING #1 ENG TO CLR FUEL. 10-20 SECONDS LATER TWR RPTED FLAMES -- NO COCKPIT WARNING OF FIRE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TWR'S WARNING; ANOTHER VOICE ON RADIO CONFIRMED SEEING FIRE. I INSTRUCTED COPLT TO OPEN CABIN DOOR AND VERIFY FIRE; #1 ENG SHOWING HIGH EGT; BUT NO FIRE WARNING. COPLT CONFIRMED SEEING FIRE. I DISCHARGED BOTTLE #1 AND INSTRUCTED COPLT TO PREPARE PAX FOR EVAC. MASTER WARNING AND FIRE BELL INDICATING FIRE IN #1 ENG. I RELEASED BOTTLE #2 AND CALLED FOR EVAC. COPLT EVACED AND SECURED PAX; I EXECUTED ENG FIRE AND SHUTDOWN CHKLIST. AT THAT TIME FIRE DEPT; CALLED BY TWR; SHOT AGENT INTO TAILPIPE OF ENG AND ALONG L SIDE OF FUSELAGE. I EVACED. PAX WERE ESCORTED INTO MAIN TERMINAL AND ACFT WAS TOWED BY FBO CLR OF TXWY. AT THIS TIME I AM UNAWARE OF THE CAUSE OF THE ENG FIRE; OR HOW I COULD HAVE PREVENTED IT.
