Narrative
TAXIING OUTBOUND AT ZZZ ON TXWY 'X' N OF 'XX' SIMULTANEOUSLY LOST STEERING/BRAKES; AND RECEIVED TWO ECAM MSGS INDICATING FAILURE OF STEERING/BRAKES AND FLT CTL. ACFT VEERED L AND ALMOST LEFT TXWY. BRAKES RETURNED AND ABRUPTLY STOPPED INJURING ALL THREE FLT ATTENDANTS. AFTER RESTORING STEERING AND BRAKES; RETURNED TO GATE. MAINT CTL (ZZZ) TOLD ME THE NEXT DAY THAT #1B STEERING CTL UNIT FAILED AND DID NOT ALLOW BACKUP #2B STEERING CTL UNIT TO KICK IN. FLT ATTENDANTS WERE RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL WITH CONTUSIONS AND 1 CRACKED RIB. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ACN 596872 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED WHEN TAXIING RECEIVED TWO ECAM MSGS INDICATING FAILURE OF THE NOSE GEAR STEERING AND BRAKES; WHICH WAS NO FALSE WARNING. THE RPTR SAID THE ACFT VEERED TO THE L AND PRIOR TO LEAVING THE TXWY THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED ABRUPTLY INJURING THREE CABIN ATTENDANTS. THE RPTR STATED THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM HAD FAILED; #1 BRAKE STEERING CTL UNIT FAILED AND #2 BRAKE STEERING CTL UNIT WAS NOT SWITCHED IN TO CTL BRAKES OR STEERING. THE RPTR SAID THIS IS A FLEET PROB AND KNOWS OF THREE INCIDENTS INVOLVING BRAKE STEERING CTL UNITS IN THIS CARRIER. THE RPTR ALSO STATED BEING AWARE OF AT LEAST FIVE SERVICE DIFFICULTY RPTS ON THIS SYSTEM FILED BY OTHER PART 121 CARRIERS. THE RPTR SAID THE INJURIES TO THE THREE FLT ATTENDANTS WERE CONTUSIONS AND ONE CRACKED RIB.
