Narrative
TO GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT I VIOLATED FAR 91.103. I VIOLATED THE PART WHERE IT SAYS THAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO CHK WX AND BE FAMILIAR WITH ALL AVAILABLE INFO INCLUDING NOTAMS. I WAS GOING TO MAKE A ROUTINE VFR FLT 30 MI SE TO A TOWN. I HAD FLOWN IN AND OUT OF THE TOWN AND OXFORD THE DAY BEFORE AND DIDN'T EVEN THINK THAT THERE WOULD BE A TEMPORARY TWR AT OXFORD SINCE IT IS AN UNCTLED FIELD. THE CATCH IS THAT ON GAME DAYS THE TFC VOLUME IS ENOUGH TO PROVIDE FOR A TWR. ALTHOUGH THIS GAME HAD A TWR AND THE OTHER GAMES DID NOT ATTRACT ENOUGH AIR TFC TO PROVIDE FOR A TWR; I DID NOT CALL FSS TO MAKE SURE. I WENT OUT TO THE ARPT TO LEAVE BEFORE THE GAME ENDED. I TAXIED AND TOOK OFF WITHOUT CALLING THE TEMPORARY TWR. I THOUGHT ABOUT IT 15 MINS LATER WHEN I LANDED. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED FSS; AND THEY CONFIRMED MY SUSPICIONS. THE POINT IS THAT NO MATTER WHERE YOU'RE GOING OR HOW FAR; A PLT SHOULD ALWAYS CALL FSS NOT ONLY FOR FAR REASONS BUT FOR SAFETY REASONS. EVEN THOUGH I KNEW THAT THE WX WAS GOOD VFR I STILL SHOULD HAVE MADE A 3 MIN CALL.
