AN ACR FO IS NOT PLEASED WITH HIS CAPT'S HANDLING OF THE RPT BY A FLT ATTENDANT OF 'SMELLING SOMETHING' OUT OF THE ORDINARY IN THE OVEN AREA OF THE GALLEY. AN EMER IS DECLARED AND THEN CANCELED WITH THE FLT GOING ON TO THE DEST.

Narrative

WHEN WE WERE ABOUT 80 MI SW OF TULSA; AT FL370; THE CAPT RECEIVED AN INTERPHONE CALL FROM THE FLT ATTENDANT IN CHARGE. SHE INFORMED HIM THAT THE FLT ATTENDANTS IN THE BACK RPTED; 'SMELLING SOMETHING' AND SAID THAT SHE WAS GOING BACK TO INVESTIGATE. A FEW MINS LATER; THE FLT ATTENDANT IN CHARGE CALLED AND SAID THAT THERE WAS A SMELL COMING FROM THE OVEN AREA IN THE AFT GALLEY; BUT THAT IT WASN'T VERY STRONG. THE CAPT INSTRUCTED ME TO GO INTO THE CABIN TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. I SUGGESTED THAT WE SHOULD IMMEDIATELY DIVERT. THE CAPT AGAIN INSTRUCTED ME TO GO INTO THE CABIN AND CHK OUT THE SIT. I MADE IT CLR THAT I DID NOT THINK THAT WAS APPROPRIATE. HOWEVER; I DID COMPLY WITH THE CAPT'S DIRECTIVE. I THEN WENT TO THE AFT GALLEY; WHERE I DETECTED THE ODOR OF SOMETHING BURNING. I CALLED THE CAPT AND TOLD HIM THAT WE NEEDED TO DIVERT AND THAT I WAS RETURNING TO THE COCKPIT. UPON RETURNING TO THE COCKPIT; I RESUMED OP OF THE ACFT CTLS. THE CAPT HAD ALREADY DECLARED AN EMER AND REQUESTED DSCNT AND DIVERSION TO TULSA. DURING DSCNT; THE FLT ATTENDANTS CALLED THE CAPT ON THE INTERPHONE. THE CAPT THEN TERMINATED THE EMER AND REQUESTED ATC CLRNC TO ATLANTA. I DID NOT KNOW THE SUBSTANCE OF THE COM WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS AND TOLD THE CAPT I WANTED TO CONTINUE TO TULSA. HE WAS THEN RECEIVING ATC CLRNC TO CONTINUE TO ATLANTA. I COMPLIED WITH THE CLRNC. DURING THE SUBSEQUENT CLB TO ALT; THE CAPT INFORMED ME THAT THE FLT ATTENDANTS HAD IDENTED AND ISOLATED THE CAUSE OF THE ODOR. WE CONTACTED AND COORDINATED WITH DISPATCH. THE REST OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL.
