Synopsis

A B737-300 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT R MAIN LNDG GEAR UPLOCK ACTUATOR INSTALLED.

Narrative

ACFT CAME INTO THE HANGAR WITH A R-HAND GEAR PROB WHERE THE GEAR WOULD NOT STAY UP WITH THE GEAR HANDLE IN THE 'OFF' POS. AFTER DISCUSSING IT; WE DECIDED TO CHANGE THE UPLOCK ACTUATOR. I BEGAN REMOVING THE BAD ACTUATOR WHILE THE LEAD AND ANOTHER MECH LOOKED UP THE NEW ACTUATOR. WHEN I FINISHED REMOVING THE BAD ACTUATOR; I WAS HANDED THE NEW ACTUATOR; AT WHICH POINT I INSTALLED IT. WE PERFORMED AN OPS CHK AND ALL WAS GOOD. I SIGNED OFF THE PAPERWORK. THE PROB WAS THAT ALTHOUGH ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOG SHOWED THE ACTUATOR EFFECTIVE FOR THE ACFT; IT WAS ONLY EFFECTIVE FOR THE L-HAND SIDE. THE FIRST SCREEN IN ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOG LISTS THE L-HAND ACTUATOR AS 'MAIN LNDG GEAR UPLOCK/DOWNLOCK L1' WHILE THE R SIDE IS LISTED AS 'MAIN LNDG GEAR LOCK INBOARD/OUTBOARD R-HAND.' THIS IS FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND CAUSED SOME CONFUSION. IN THE FUTURE I WILL BE MORE ASSERTIVE IN MAKING SURE THE RIGHT PART HAS BEEN TAKEN FOR THE JOB. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 600086: I WILL BE SURE TO CHK FOR A POS/LOCATION EFFECTIVITY MORE THOROUGHLY IN THE FUTURE AND MAKE SURE MY LEADS AND FELLOW CO-WORKERS ARE ALSO AWARE OF PART AND LOCATION/POS EFFECTIVITY.
