MD80 CREW ALLOWED THE OUTBOUND FLT CREW TO MARSHALL THE ACFT INTO THE GATE AFTER BLOCKING THE ALLEY WAY FOR ABOUT 8 MINS.

Narrative

WE ARRIVED AT ORD JUST A FEW MINS AFTER SCHEDULED; DOING OUR BEST TO GET THE PAX TO ORD AFTER A DELAY IN ZZZ. WE ARRIVED AT GATE; WAITING ON A GUIDE MAN TO PARK US. AFTER ABOUT 8 MINS OF BLOCKING THE ALLEY WAY WITH AT LEAST 3 ACFT NEEDING TO EXIT; BUT COULD NOT DUE TO US NOT HAVING A GUIDE MAN; THE CAPT AND FO THAT WERE THERE WAITING TO TAKE THE ACFT OUT TOOK THE INITIATIVE AND PARKED ME ON THE GATE; ALLOWING OUR PAX TO MAKE THEIR CONNECTIONS AND THE ACFT BLOCKED IN THE RAMP TO MAKE THEIR SCHEDULES. I MOVED UP APPROX 20 YARDS TO PARK THE ACFT UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE CAPT AND FO. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINS; A RAMP PERSONNEL; I PRESUME TO BE THE CREW CHIEF; CAME ON THE JETBRIDGE AND PROCEEDED TO CHASTISE THE CAPT ON THE OUTBOUND FLT FOR PARKING THE ACFT. THE EMPLOYEE MADE THE COMMENT THAT THE ONLY WAY WE COULD GET THE COMPANY TO DO ANYTHING FOR US WAS TO MAKE A POINT; WHICH I ASSUME WAS TO DISRUPT THE FLOW OF TFC. I MADE THE DECISION TO ADVANCE THE ACFT 20 YARDS AND PARK THE ACFT SO THAT THE PAX COULD MAKE THEIR CONNECTIONS AND NOT DISRUPT THE ACT ARRS AND DEPS. I KNOW THAT THE CAPT'S 'JOB' IS NOT TO MARSHALL IN AIRPLANES; BUT AT NO TIME DID I FEEL THAT I WAS PUTTING THE ACFT IN ANY SAFETY THREAT.
