AN MD88 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH A CORRECTED DEFERRED ITEM BUT THE CORRECTED ITEM NOW REQUIRED A 3 DAY FIX LIMIT THAT HAD EXPIRED.

Narrative

ON THE MORNING OF JAN/MON/04; I WAS CALLED OUT TO ACFT X BY THE FLT CREW WITH A QUESTION CONCERNING A MCO ITEM THAT WAS ONBOARD THE ACFT. THE MCO WAS FOR THE COCKPIT REMOTE ACCESS DOOR; AURAL TONE. THE CREW INFORMED ME THAT THE FLT DECK ACCESS PANEL (KEYPAD) AURAL TONE (BEEP) OPERATED NORMALLY (MEL 52-00-11D); AND THAT THE FLT DECK DOOR CTL SON ALERT WAS INOP (MEL 52-00-11H). SO I CALLED OUR MAINT COORDINATOR WITH THE PROB AND I WAS TOLD TO CLR THE ORIGINAL MCO AND INSTALL A NEW MCO FOR THE PROB. THE PROB IS THAT THE ORIGINAL MCO WAS A REPAIR CATEGORY B AND THE NEW MCO IS A REPAIR CATEGORY A. AFTER THE ACFT WAS DISPATCHED; THE MAINT COORDINATOR CALLED AND INFORMED ME THAT THE MEL WAS WRONG ON THE ORIGINAL MCO AND THAT THE DATE OF THE NEW CATEGORY A MEL WOULD HAVE EXPIRED AT XA00 ON JAN/SUN/04 BECAUSE THE DATE WAS RETROACTIVE TO THE ORIGINAL DATE THE ITEM WAS PLACED ON MCO WITH THE WRONG MEL. THE OUTSTANDING MAINT ITEMS LIST DID NOT INDICATE EXPIRATION OR CATEGORY (A) FOR THE MEL ON THE ORIGINAL SON ALERT MCO.
