Narrative
WHEN GEAR WAS LOWERED FOR LNDG WE GOT AN AMBER GEAR LIGHT; NO L GEAR DOWN LIGHT AND A L SIDE BRACE EICAS MESSAGE. THIS WAS AT ABOUT 1500 FT SO WE CYCLED THE GEAR AND GOT THE SAME RESULTS. NOTIFIED TWR; DECLARED AN EMER; RAISED THE GEAR AND WENT AROUND. TOLD DEP THAT WE NEEDED TIME TO RUN THE CHKLIST AND TALK TO COMPANY. FUEL WAS NOW APPROX 24000 LBS. WE ACCOMPLISHED THE L DRAG BRACE/SIDE BRACE PROC. MAINT ALSO HAD US MANUALLY LOWER THE GEAR. STILL HAD UNSAFE GEAR INDICATION AND NOW HAD STATUS MESSAGE. 'LNDG GEAR-MONITOR.' DID A FLY-BY AND BOTH TWR AND MAINT RPTED THAT GEAR APPEARED TO BE DOWN. LEFT THE GEAR DOWN AND CAME BACK FOR AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG. STOPPED ON THE RWY; HAD THE LNDG GEAR PINNED AND MAINT CLRED US TO TAXI TO THE GATE. SHUT DOWN AT THE GATE WITH 16500 LBS. MAINT CAME UP TO THE COCKPIT AND TOLD US THAT THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE #6 TIRE AND KNOCKED OFF THE SIDE BRACE MONITOR AND ALSO DID SOME DAMAGE TO THE FLAPS. WE DID A 5 DEG FLAP; MAX GROSS WT TKOF AT DEP ARPT. THE TKOF FELT NORMAL AND THE FLT ATTENDANTS SAID THAT THEY DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANYTHING UNUSUAL.
