MD80 CREW HAD A HIGH SPD ABORTED TKOF BECAUSE OF A CARGO DOOR OPEN LIGHT ILLUMINATED.
Narrative
DURING TKOF ROLL AT APPROX 120 KTS; THE FORWARD CARGO DOOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. INITIATED A SUCCESSFUL ABORT AND EXITED THE RWY AT INTXN N2. TURNED R ONTO TXWY N AND STOPPED THE ACFT. CALLED FOR CFR TO INSPECT BRAKES AND WHEELS. BRAKES AND WHEELS INSPECTED BY BOTH CFR AND MAINT WITH NO DAMAGE NOTED. BRAKE TEMPS PEAKED AT APPROX 350 DEGS; BUT BRAKES WERE ALLOWED TO COOL TO APPROX 150 DEGS PRIOR TO TAXI BACK TO THE GATE. MAX REVERSE WAS USED IN ADDITION TO MAX BRAKING DUE TO RWY CONDITION (SNOW COVERED) AND RWY LENGTH. ACFT SUBSEQUENTLY REMOVED FROM SVC FOR POST ABORT MAINT INSPECTION OF WHEELS; TIRES AND ENGS. ACFT WT WAS APPROX 142000 LBS; V1 = 144 KTS. BRAKING ACTION ON THE RWY PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT WAS RPTED AS GOOD UP TO THE INTXN GG. ABORT WAS UNEVENTFUL. ACFT REMAINED ON CTRLINE THROUGHOUT THE ABORT AND WAS AT A SAFE TAXI SPD BY THE INTXN OF TXWY GG. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 606254: AFTER PASSING 100 KIAS; I CALLED OUT FORWARD CARGO DOOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. LOOKED DOWN AT THE AIRSPD WHICH WAS JUST UNDER 120 KIAS. THEY SENT OUT MAINT TO ASSIST. BRAKE OVERTEMP LIGHT ILLUMINATED. RWYS HAD SNOW ON THEM; BUT BRAKING ACTION WAS RPTED AS GOOD. WE WERE PERFORMING A MAX PWR TKOF.
