Narrative

AT APPROX XA00; CREW MEMBER (PF) RECEIVED CLRNC FROM AUS CLRNC DELIVERY AS FOLLOWS: CLRED AS FILED; CENTEX ONE; NAVASOTA TRANSITION; DIRECT LUFKIN AS FILED. SQUAWK XXXX. UPON PROGRAMMING FMS DEP; CENTEX ONE WAS ENTERED. 2 CHOICES WERE AVAILABLE FOR TRANSITIONS; NAVY'S AND TNV. CREW MEMBER (PF) INADVERTENTLY ENTERED NAVY'S (SOUNDS LIKE NAVASOTA) INSTEAD OF TNV (NAVASOTA). AFTER DEPARTING RWY 35R; AUS DEP ASSIGNED HDG 010 DEGS. CREW MEMBER; PNF; ACKNOWLEDGED. NEXT INSTRUCTION WAS 'PRESENT HDG TO INTERCEPT OUTBOUND RADIAL' (NO SPECIFIC NAVAID OR RADIAL MENTIONED). WE PROCEEDED TO INTERCEPT CENTEX (CWK) 040 DEGS TO NAVYS INTXN. AFTER HDOF TO ZHU; WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO PROCEED DIRECT NAVASOTA (TNV) AND ASKED WHAT LAST RTE WAS ASSIGNED BY AUS DEP. CREW MEMBER (PNF) RESPONDED; 'PRESENT HDG TO INTERCEPT OUTBOUND RADIAL.' ZHU COMMENTED 'WE HAD REMAINED IN AUS AIRSPACE.' NO FURTHER QUESTIONS OR INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOWED FROM ATC REGARDING PRIOR CLRNCS. CREW MEMBERS AGREE; WITH 2 LIKE SOUNDING (PRONOUNCING) FIXES ON CENTEX DEP; CHANCE OF ERROR IS INCREASED. BOTH CREW MEMBERS MUST VERIFY FMS PROGRAMMING AND CLRNCS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 608116: AFTER FLYING 060 DEGS FOR A MIN OR SO; WE SAW THAT THAT HDG WOULD NOT INTERCEPT THE RADIAL. WHEN WE WERE TOLD TO INTERCEPT THE RADIAL WE THOUGHT THAT WE SHOULD INTERCEPT THE 040 DEG RADIAL; NOT THE 088 DEG RADIAL. WHEN IT BECAME OBVIOUS TO ATC THAT WE WERE NOT INTERCEPTING THE 088 DEGS WE WERE GIVEN CLRNC DIRECT TNV. DUE TO A RUSH OR AN EFFORT TO UNDERSTAND (ANY DISTR) A MISTAKE MAY BE MADE; AS IT WAS IN OUR CASE; BTWN 'NAVYS AND NAVASOTA.'
