Narrative
AFTER GND CTL CLRED US FOR PUSHBACK ONTO TXWY; WE PROCEEDED TO TAXI ON TXWY. GND CTL HANDED US OVER TO ZZZ TWR. TWR INSTRUCTED US TO HOLD ON RWY. BEFORE WE REACHED RWY TWR INSTRUCTED US TO CLR RWY AND TO HOLD AT RWY. TWR NOTED HE HAD A PLANE ON 3 MI FINAL. AS WE CLRED RWY AND WERE JUST PASSING THE RWY THRESHOLD LINE I LOOKED TO MY L AND NOTICED A B747 ON FINAL AT APPROX 1000 FT. I CLRED RWY WHICH TOOK A FEW SECONDS AND HELD AT RWY WHICH I THOUGHT WERE THE TWR'S ORIGINAL INTENTIONS. PLEASE NOTE THAT ON THAT END OF THE RWY THERE IS NO DUAL SIGN INDICATING THE OPPOSITE END OF THE RWY NUMBER DESIGNATION. AS WE WERE HOLDING AT RWY WE NOTICED THE B747 EXECUTE A GAR. NOTE THAT ACFT WAS LNDG ON RWY AND WE WERE ON OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE RWY. THEIR WHEELS NEVER TOUCHED DOWN. TWR INSTRUCTED US TO TAXI TO GATE WITH NO PROBS. TWR'S INSTRUCTIONS TO CLR RWY AND TO HOLD AT RWY MAY HAVE BEEN MISLEADING TO ME BECAUSE RWY NUMBER IS ACTUALLY ON THE OPPOSITE END; AND TWR INSTRUCTED US TO CLR 2 ACTIVE RWYS AND TO HOLD AT THE 3RD RWY. NEVER ONCE WERE WE OR ACFT IN ANY DANGER BECAUSE WE HAD ALREADY CLRED THE RWY BEFORE THEY EXECUTED THEIR GAR.
