Narrative
WHILE CONDUCTING A FLT IN A 350 KING AIR WE APCHED THE CINCINNATI LUNKEN LATE AT NIGHT. THE TWR WAS CLOSED FOR THE NIGHT. THE ENRTE CTR HANDED US OVER TO THE LOCAL ADVISORY FREQ AND I SWITCHED TO THE PUBLISHED CTAF FREQ OF 118.7. AFTER DUTIFULLY ANNOUNCING OUR POSITION AND INTENTIONS AT REGULAR INTERVALS IN THE APCH AND LNDG SEQUENCE WE LANDED AND WERE JUST OFF OF THE RWY AT THE TXWY WHEN A SINGLE ENG ACFT CLBED OUT JUST ABOVE AND BEHIND US. I MADE NOTE THAT THERE WERE NO RADIO CALLS ON THE CTAF AT ANYTIME DURING OUR APCH AND ARR. THE REAL SURPRISE CAME WHEN I WENT INSIDE THE FBO AND HEARD SEVERAL ACFT IN THE PATTERN LNDG AND TAKING OFF ALL ANNOUNCING THEIR INTENTIONS AND POS ON THE UNICOM FREQ OF 122.95. AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION; ON ARR AND DEPING ARPTS WITH CLOSED CTL TWRS; WE NOW MONITOR BOTH THE CTAF AND UNICOM. THERE NEEDS TO BE AN AGGRESSIVE INFO CAMPAIGN BY THE FAA TO EDUCATE THE PLT COMMUNITY TO WHAT IS PROBABLY A COMMON PROB NATIONWIDE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR ELICITED LITTLE NEW INFO. HE DID STRESS HIS SURPRISE AND CONCERN THAT THE TFC PATTERN HAD SEVERAL ACFT MAKING ADVISORIES ON UNICOM AND HE HAD JUST ARRIVED USING THE CORRECT CTAF FREQ AND THOUGHT HE WAS THE ONLY AIRPLANE IN THE AREA.
