Synopsis

AN AERONCA LOW TIME PLT; FLYING WITH HIS CFI; GND LOOPED HIS ACFT AT ZZZ CAUSING THE GEAR TO FALL OFF.

Narrative

WHILE CONDUCTING A CHK RIDE WITH MY FLT INSTRUCTOR; MY ACFT VEERED HARD L; CAUSING THE ACFT TO LEAVE THE RWY HITTING A DITCH. NO INJURIES AS A RESULT. PRIOR TO TAXI; ALL OPERATIONAL CTLS WERE CHKED IN ROUTINE PREFLT INSPECTION. ALL ENG AND CTLS APPEARED TO BE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. ONCE IN POS FOR A RWY 21 DEP FROM ZZZ; I PWRED THE ACFT UP AND BEGAN MY TKOF ROLL. WITH THE AIRSPD AT APPROX 35 MPH; THE PLANE FELT LIKE IT WAS STARTING TO DRAG TO THE L. MY INSTRUCTOR ASKED ME IF SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY BRAKES WHICH I WAS NOT ON AT THE TIME. I APPLIED HARD R RUDDER AND THE PLANE WAS STILL VEERING OFF THE RWY. AT THIS TIME; I PICKED UP THE L WHEEL AND THE ACFT STARTED TO TRACK DOWN THE STRIP. SINCE I WAS CLOSE TO THE L SIDE OF THE RWY; I SET THE PLANE BACK DOWN. WHEN I DID; THE PLANE VEERED HARD TO THE L. THIS CAUSED THE ACFT TO LEAVE THE RWY AND HEAD FOR A DITCH. THE AIRPLANE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH AIRSPD TO FLY; BUT I PULLED THE STICK BACK TO GET THE PLANE OVER A DITCH (TO KEEP THE PLANE FROM CRASHING INTO THE BANK HEAD-ON). ONCE THE PLANE CLRED THE BANK; THE WING SCRAPED THE OTHER SIDE SIDEWAYS AND CAUSED IT TO SPIN. THE SPIN CAUSED THE LNDG GEAR TO BREAK. AFTER SECURING THE ACFT; I WENT BACK AND LOOKED AT THE TRACKS AND FOUND WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE L WHEEL ('LOCKED') SLIDING. AFTER PUMPING THE WHEEL BRAKES; I CANNOT FIND THAT IT WAS SEIZED UP. THE BRAKE LINE DID BREAK; SO I COULD NOT TELL IF IT WAS A BRAKE ISSUE. I IMMEDIATELY RPTED TO THE ARPT MGR IN ZZZ. ALSO FILED RPT WITH LCL POLICE DEPT. BOTH ARPT MGR AND POLICE; AS WELL AS MYSELF; PHOTOGRAPHED THE ACFT AND THE AREA. AGAIN PRIOR TO THE TKOF ROLL; NO OP/CTL ERRORS WERE NOTICED. THE ACFT SEEMED 100%.
