Narrative
DEPARTED ZZZ1 FOR PLEASURE FLT TO ZZZ. I AM A VFR PLT; THE WX WAS CLR AND FAVORABLE; SO I DID NOT CHK WX; NOTAM OR ARPT ADVISORIES AND DID NOT FILE A FLT PLAN. RADIO CHK; WITH UNICOM; WAS CLR PRIOR TO DEP. LISTENED TO DIFFERENT FREQS DURING FLT PERIOD WHILE ENRTE. APPROX 30-40 MI SE OF LABELLE; FL; I EXPERIENCED NAV AND COM DIFFICULTIES. LOST VOR; GPS AND RADIO CAPABILITIES. TRIED TO TUNE IN ZME; MIA APCH OR ATIS BUT UNABLE TO RECEIVE OR XMIT. HOWEVER; CONTINUED TO WORK ON RADIOS WHILE SILL HEADING TO ZZZ. APPROX 14-20 MI NW OF ZZZ ARPT; 1 RADIO BEGAN WORKING PARTIALLY BUT WITH A GREAT AMOUNT OF STATIC. CONTACTED ZZZ TWR TO INFORM THEM I WAS EXPERIENCING RADIO AND NAV PROBS. THE TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO INITIATE IDENT ON XPONDER. SAID I WAS APPROX 12 MI NW OF ARPT FLY A HDG OF 130 DEGS AND LAND AT ZZZ; WHICH I DID. AFTER LNDG THE ACFT; THE TWR INFORMED ME I HAD VIOLATED A TFR AIRSPACE. HAD MY RADIOS BEEN WORKING PROPERLY; I WOULD HAVE KNOWN; THROUGH ZMA OR ATIS; THAT THE ZZZ ARPT WAS TEMPORARILY RESTR. VFR PLTS SHOULD CHK ALL ARPT ADVISORIES AND NOTAMS BEFORE DEP. I HAVE BEEN A PLT FOR OVER 20 YRS AND WHEN THE WX IS NICE; FILING FLT PLANS HAS NOT BEEN A REGULAR PROC FOR ME AS WELL AS MOST OTHER VFR PLTS. WHAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS EXPERIENCE IS TO ALWAYS CHK AIRSPACE AND NOTAM STATUS PRIOR TO FLT AND CARRY BACK-UP HAND-HELD COM AND GPS EQUIP.
