A STUDENT WITH A CFI FLYING AN AMERICAN CHAMP CH7A DECLARE AN EMER AFTER EXPERIENCING A STUCK BRAKE AND HITTING A TXWY LIGHT ON A GAR.

Narrative

I WAS RECEIVING FLT LESSONS IN AMERICAN CHAMP ACFT MODEL 7KCAB FROM A FLT CLUB INSTRUCTOR LOCATED AT OJC. WE WERE PRACTICING TOUCH AND GOES WHEN ON OUR 2ND LNDG; IT FELT LIKE THE R MAIN WHEEL OR STRUT GAVE. THE PLANE DIPPED TO THE R AND THEN SPRUNG BACK TO L AS THOUGH THE BRAKES HAD LOCKED. I GAVE IT GAS TO DO A GAR. AIRPLANE WENT OFF RWY AND BEFORE I GAINED ENOUGH ALT; IT STRUCK A TAXI LIGHT ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE PLANE WHICH TORE THE FABRIC. WE REENTERED THE PATTERN; DECLARED AN EMER AND LANDED. INSTRUCTOR AND I DISCUSSED WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND WE BOTH FELT THE APCH LOOKED GOOD. OUR THOUGHT AT THE TIME; WAS THE WHEEL HAD FALLEN OFF OR WENT FLAT. RWY IS A N/S. THE WINDS AT THIS TIME WERE 4 MPH AT S/E. VISIBILITY WAS GOOD. I'M AN A&P WITH 3700 TOTAL HRS. MY INSTRUCTOR IS A RETIRED AIRLINE CAPT; 25000 TOTAL HRS. WE BOTH THINK EITHER THE STRUT GAVE OR THE WHEEL STOPPED ROLLING. NO ONE WAS ON THE BRAKE AT THIS TIME. WE WERE IN THE CTR OF THE RWY LNDG AND THE PLANE ROLLED ABOUT 10 FT. IT PULLED TO THE R AND THEN L. I THINK THE PLANE'S BRAKES MIGHT HAVE STUCK.
