HARD LNDG IN AN FA20 BY A FO MAKING HIS FIRST LNDG IN ACFT DURING A NIGHT CARGO OP AT JHW; NY.

Narrative

WHILE LNDG AT JHW; AN INCIDENT OCCURRED. I WAS PIC; ACTING AS THE PNF IN A CARGO FALCON 20 CARRYING CARGO FOR HIRE. VISUAL APCH WAS MADE; ENTERED A STANDARD TFC PATTERN. TARGET SPD OF VREF +10 KTS WAS MAINTAINED +10 -5 KTS; OR REF +20 KTS TO REF +5 KTS. COPLT STARTED TO FLARE EARLY. I STATED 'NOT YET; MAINTAIN AIRSPD' OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. HE REACTED PROPERLY. SECONDS LATER; PWR WAS REDUCED FOR LNDG AT THE APPROPRIATE TIME. A FLARE WAS INITIATED. THE FLARE WAS NOT FAST ENOUGH TO EASE TOUCHDOWN. I DID NOT REALIZE THE FLARE WAS GOING TO BE SO SLOW MOVING UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. BY TOUCHDOWN; I HAD PULLED THE YOKE FULL AFT. IMPACT RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO R MAIN GEAR. THE TOUCHDOWN WAS NOT CRABBED/YAWED AND THE ACFT WAS NOT IN A BANK. THE GAP SEAL FOR THE DROOP LEADING EDGE FLAPS WAS MISALIGNED; ON RETRACTION DAMAGE RESULTED. NEITHER WING TOUCHED THE RWY. THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST LNDG MADE BY THE SIC. I AM NOT A COMPANY INSTRUCTOR. I RECOMMEND 3 TKOFS/LNDGS FOR ANY PART 135 PLT TO ANY REVENUE FLT. TKOFS/LNDGS IN THE ACTUAL ACFT; NOT JUST A LEVEL 'D' SIMULATOR.
