AFTER A DIVERSION FOR WX AVOIDANCE; PA18 SUPER CUB PVT PLT EXPERIENCES A WIND SHIFT AFTER LNDG WITH ACFT NOSING OVER ON TXWY.

Narrative

I WAS ON A XCOUNTRY; ROUND ROBIN FLT BEGINNING AT JOHN C TUNE ARPT. BEFORE DEPARTING JWN; I OBTAINED A STANDARD BRIEFING FROM NASHVILLE FSS BY TELEPHONE. I ALSO ACCESSED THE WX COMPUTER AT THE JWN FBO. I LEFT JOHN TUNE ARPT AND TRAVELED TO TULLAHOMA; TN; WHERE I DID 6 TOUCH-AND-GOES BEFORE LNDG TO GET GAS. I WAS NOT ON A FLT PLAN. AFTER FILLING UP; I TOOK OFF FROM TULLAHOMA AND FLEW NW TO SHELBYVILLE; TN. I DID A SIMILAR NUMBER OF TOUCH-AND-GOES AT THIS LOCATION BEFORE TAKING OFF TO FLY TOWARD MAURY COUNTY'S COLUMBIA; TN; ARPT. WHILE TRAVELING W AT 2500 FT; I BEGAN TO OBSERVE A DARK HAZE IN THE DISTANT HORIZON. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION; I DISCOVERED A SERIES OF RAIN CELLS CARRYING BOTH HVY RAIN AND LIGHTNING. I DEVIATED FROM MY NEXT STOP AND TURNED BACK E AND CALLED NASHVILLE APCH. AFTER SPEAKING OF THE TSTMS; BNA APCH TOLD ME THAT THIS LINE OF STORMS EXTENDED FROM MY LOCATION N INTO KENTUCKY. IT WAS APPARENT THAT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO RETURN N TO JOHN TUNE ARPT TO LAND. AFTER IDENTING MY POS AND BEING GIVEN BOTH A SQUAWK CODE AND FLT FOLLOWING; NASHVILLE APCH SUGGESTED MURFREESBORO ARPT AS AN ALTERNATE. AFTER PICKING UP THE AWOS AT MURFREESBORO AND RPTING THE ARPT IN SIGHT; FLT FOLLOWING WAS CANCELLED AND I MANEUVERED TO ENTER THE PATTERN. I OBSERVED THE WINDSOCK ON THE GND FAVORING AN APCH FOR RWY 18. THE WINDS WERE GUSTING BADLY. AS I LANDED THE AIRPLANE; A DRAMATIC SHIFT IN WIND DIRECTION OCCURRED. THE WIND CHANGED DIRECTION BY 180N DEGS AND A SUDDEN GUST OF WIND LIFTED MY PLANE FROM BEHIND CAUSING IT TO TIP FORWARD. BY THIS TIME; I HAD SLOWED MY AIRPLANE TO A TAXI SPD AND HAD ENTERED THE TXWY WHEN MY PLANE TOPPLED OVER ONTO ITS NOSE.
