Synopsis

A B737-200 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT GENERATOR CTL PANEL INSTALLED IN THE P-5 OVERHEAD PANEL.

Narrative

ON THIS NIGHT I WAS ASSIGNED ACFT S/C AND PMC. BOTH ACFT TERMINATED WITH INBOUND WRITE-UPS; BOTH HAVING RAM AIR DOOR DISCREPANCIES; WITH APU ELECTRICAL #1 UNABLE TO COME ON LINE. THIS NIGHT WAS HECTIC FOR ALL. WE HAD A SLAT CHANGE ON ANOTHER ACFT AS WELL AS IT HAD A C-CHK WASH AS WELL AS OTHER ACFT WITH NUMEROUS INBOUNDS; TIRES; AND BRAKES. AS I WAS CHANGING THIS COMPONENT; I HAD MADE A MENTAL NOTE TO CHK 'COMPATIBILITY OF PARTS' COMPUTER. IN AN EFFORT TO HELP OTHERS INSTEAD OF TAKING THE TIME TO DRIVE TO THE OTHER; SIDE OF THE ARPT TO CHK MD25; I FORGOT TO CHK. RIGHT AFTER I TROUBLESHOT AND DETERMINED THIS FIX; I WENT TO ACFT TO FIX AN ANNOYANCE MEL ON THE #2 ENG OIL FILTER BYPASS LIGHT WHICH IS WHERE I SPENT THE REST OF THE NIGHT. GENTLEMEN; IT IS MY FAULT. I SHOULD HAVE FINISHED ONE JOB BEFORE STARTING ANOTHER. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THAT; IN ATTEMPTING TO COVER SEVERAL JOBS; THE WRONG GENERATOR CTL PANEL WAS INSTALLED IN THE P-5 OVERHEAD PANEL. THE RPTR SAID THAT SEVERAL TIMES ATTEMPTS HAD BEEN MADE TO GET TO THE 'COMPATIBILITY COMPUTER' TO ORDER THE CORRECT PART FOR THE GENERATOR RPT; BUT SOME OTHER PROB WOULD ALWAYS POP UP. THE RPTR STATED THE PANEL WAS REMOVED AND A REPLACEMENT INSTALLED; BUT THE REMOVED PART AND INSTALLED PART NUMBER WERE NEVER COMPARED.
