A BE95 SINGLE PLT; WHILE IFR ON APCH TO MQJ; EXPERIENCED AN NMAC WITH ANOTHER BONANZA WHICH HE DETECTED ON HIS TFC AVOIDANCE SYS BEFORE IND CALLED IT OUT.

Narrative

WHILE ON AN IFR FLT PLAN TO MQJ ARPT; IN; I WAS CLRED BY THE IND APCH CTLR TO DSND FROM 7000 FT TO 4000 FT AND THEN TO 3000 FT AND TO FLY DIRECTLY TO THE MOUNT COMFORT ARPT. WHEN MY ALT; AS BEST I CAN RECALL; WAS ABOUT 3250 FT MSL; THE SKYWATCH TFC AVOIDANCE SYS ANNOUNCED 'TFC; TFC!' I NOTED ON THE SKYWATCH DISPLAY AND THE MFD THERE WAS TFC AT ABOUT MY 11 O'CLOCK POS AND 200 FT BELOW. THE SYMBOLOGY INDICATED THAT THE OTHER ACFT WAS WITHIN THE CLOSEST POINT OF APCH. THE IND APCH CTLR WAS CONTACTED TO INQUIRE ABOUT THIS TFC. THE CTLR INDICATED HE HAD BEEN TRYING TO REACH ME FOR 2 OR 3 MI; BUT HAD BEEN UNABLE TO DO SO. AS WE WERE SPEAKING; I OBSERVED A BEECHCRAFT BONANZA BELOW ME AT ABOUT MY 11 O'CLOCK POS. MY COMPASS HDG WAS ABOUT 109 DEGS AND IT IS ESTIMATED THE BONANZA'S HDG WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT 130 DEGS. I IMMEDIATELY INITIATED CLB; AND AS I WAS CLBING; I TURNED TO THE N TO BETTER CLR THE PATH OF THE BONANZA. AT THE SAME TIME I INITIATED EVASIVE MANEUVER; I ADVISED THE IND APCH CTLR OF MY ACTION. NO OBJECTION WAS RAISED. I CONTINUED THE CLB TO ABOUT 4400 FT OF ALT ON A NORTHERLY HDG BECAUSE THE SKYWATCH INDICATED THAT THE OTHER ACFT WAS STILL 200 FT BELOW ME. THE CTLR SHORTLY ADVISED THAT I WAS CLR OF THE BONANZA TFC AND CLRED ME TO LAND AT THE MQJ ARPT; IN.
