B737-200 STRIKES CARGO CONTAINER LOADER WITH UNDERSIDE OF L WING WHILE PARKING AT TPA. FULL COMPLEMENT OF WING WALKERS WERE UNABLE TO SIGNAL THE MARSHALLER ABOUT THE IMPENDING CONTACT IN A TIMELY FASHION.
Narrative
I PERFORMED THE PREFLT INSPECTION OF A B737-200 AT CVG AND OBSERVED; AMONG OTHER THINGS; THAT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE L WING WAS WITHIN NORMAL PARAMETERS. THE FLT WAS CONDUCTED ACCORDING TO COMPANY AND FAA PROCS. WHEN WE TAXIED INTO GATE AT TPA; WE HAD 2 WING WALKERS AND A MARSHALLER. WE HAD 'THUMBS UP' FROM THE 2 WING WALKERS AND THE MARSHALLER DIRECTED US IN WITH WANDS. WE STOPPED AS DIRECTED BY THE MARSHALLER. THE JETWAY WAS CONNECTED AND THE PAX DISEMBARKED. I DID NOT HAVE ANY SENSE OR IMPRESSION THAT WOULD BE CONSISTENT WITH MAKING CONTACT WITH ANY OBSTRUCTION. AFTER THE PAX LEFT; WE PACKED OUR GEAR AND PROCEEDED TO THE JETWAY. NO PAX; FLT CREW; MARSHALLER; OR GND PERSONNEL CONTACTED US SAYING THAT THE ACFT HAD ENCOUNTERED AN OBSTRUCTION. THE NEXT DAY (12 HRS LATER) WE WERE INFORMED BY PHONE; BY THE CHIEF PLT; THAT THE ACFT HAD MADE CONTACT WITH AN OBJECT. A RPT FROM MAINT STATED THE FOLLOWING: AS THE ACFT APCHED THE GATE ALL GATE CREW MEMBERS WENT TO THE PROPER POS. THE ACFT WAS MARSHALLED IN WITH WING WALKERS IN PLACE. THE AGENT ON L WING NOTICED THE CONTAINER LOADER AND BEGAN TO SIGNAL AND YELL TO GET THE ATTN OF THE AGENT MARSHALLING THE ACFT IN. THE JETWAY WAS BLOCKING THEIR VIEW SO HE TRIED TO GET THE OTHER WING WALKER'S ATTN ON THE R SIDE. ONCE THE R WING WALKER SAW THE SIGNAL HE GAVE THE STOP SIGNAL TO THE MARSHALLING AGENT. AT THIS POINT; IT WAS TOO LATE AND THE L WINGTIP WENT OVER THE TOP OF THE SAFETY RAIL ON THE OPERATOR'S COMPARTMENT OF THE CONTAINER LOADER. THIS CAUSED A 1
