AN EMJ CAPT RPTED THAT THE REGULAR GATE AT EWR WAS UNAVAILABLE; CAUSING THE AGENT TO UTILIZE A NON STANDARD METHOD FOR DISEMBARKING THE PAX WHICH RESULTED IN INJURY TO AT LEAST 1 PERSON.

Narrative

UPON ARR IN EWR; AGENT PULLED JETBRIDGE UP TO ACFT ON THE HIGH SIDE. FLT ATTENDANT ASKED FOR BRIDGE TO BE RESET. AGENT REFUSED AND STATED IT WAS AS LOW AS IT WOULD GO; THAT THEY DO THIS ALL THE TIME. JETBRIDGE PORTABLE; A BRIDGE THAT LINKS THE JETBRIDGE TO THE ACFT DOOR; WAS SET ON AN ANGLE REQUIRING FLT ATTENDANT TO HOLD THE PORTABLE BRIDGE STILL WHILE PAX BEGAN TO GET OFF THE ACFT. THE PORTABLE BRIDGE WAS NOT FIRMLY SET ON EITHER THE ACFT OR THE JETBRIDGE; CAUSING IT TO ROCK. THE FLT ATTENDANT CONTINUALLY REMINDED THE AGENT TO HOLD THE PORTABLE BRIDGE ON HER SIDE WHILE SEVERAL PAX CROSSED. THE PORTABLE BRIDGE BEGAN TO POP UP DUE TO THE WT OF THE PAX CAUSING SEVERAL TO FIND IT DIFFICULT. NO ONE; THAT WE WERE AWARE OF; FELL. ONE WOMAN TRIPPED BUT DID NOT FALL. AT THAT MOMENT; THE FLT ATTENDANT LEANED INTO THE BRIDGE TO KEEP IT STABLE. I WAS INFORMED THAT A PAX HAD RPTED AN INJURY ON THIS FLT WHILE LEAVING. AS THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HEARD OF THIS; I FELT COMPELLED TO FILE THIS RPT. I WAS ONLY AWARE OF THE BASIC PROB OF THE PORTABLE BRIDGE AT THE TIME AND REQUESTED THAT THE FLT ATTENDANT USE CAUTION UNTIL WE COULD GET SOMEONE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE AGENT ADVISED ME THAT THIS WAS THE BEST IT WOULD GET AS THAT SPECIFIC GATE WOULD GO DOWN NO FARTHER; UNLIKE OUR USUAL GATE.
