Synopsis

A B737 FLT CREW RECEIVE A DOOR LIGHT JUST AFTER TKOF RESULTING IN A RETURN TO DEP ARPT.

Narrative

ON INITIAL CLBOUT AT APPROX 1500 FT THE MASTER CAUTION ILLUMINATED INDICATING AN AFT CARGO WARNING. IT WAS MY LEG; SO CAPT/CHK AIRMAN REFED THE QRH. SINCE THE ACFT WOULD NOT PRESSURIZE; WE ELECTED TO RETURN TO SJC. AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE LIGHT WENT OUT AS WE TAXIED BACK TO THE GATE. CAPT ADVISED ME THAT THE RAMP AGENTS HAD NOT SECURED THE CARGO BIN NETTING AND IT HAD GOTTEN CAUGHT IN THE DOOR WHEN CLOSED. HE CONTACTED DISPATCH AND MAINT TO DISCUSS THE SIT. AFTERWARDS; WE RECEIVED A NEW RELEASE; REFUELED AND CONTINUED THE FLT. I FEEL THIS SIT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE CARGO BIN NET WAS PROPERLY SECURED AND NOT ALLOWED TO SLIP DOWN INTO THE DOOR SEAL AREA. IT MIGHT ALSO BE BENEFICIAL THAT ANYONE WHO CLOSES THE CARGO DOORS BE REMINDED OF THE IMPORTANCE OF MAKING SURE THE DOOR IS CLOSED PROPERLY (WITH NO OBSTRUCTIONS). SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 627907: COORDINATED WITH DISPATCH; MAINT; GOT FUEL; NEW DISPATCH RELEASE; CLOSED DOOR AND CHKED PRESSURIZATION; LEFT 50 MINS LATE. DID NOT MAKE ANY 'INFO WRITE-UP' IN LOGBOOK AS COULD NOT FIND ANY FOM REQUIREMENT TO DO SO. IN HINDSIGHT; WOULD MAKE NOTE EXPLAINING AIR RETURN IN LOGBOOK FOR FAA.
