Narrative
I WAS SOMEWHAT UNFAMILIAR WITH THE LOCATION OF THE FBO IN RELATION TO THE ARPT. I SPENT SOME TIME ORIENTING MYSELF WITH THE ARPT DIAGRAM DURING THE FLT PLANNING AND PREPARED MYSELF MENTALLY TO TAXI OUT AND USE RWY 12R. DURING PREFLT; I DISCOVERED THE OWNER DID NOT BRING HEADSETS DOWN WITH HIM ON THE PREVIOUS FLT; AND I ONLY BROUGHT 1 SET DOWN WITH ME. WE DECIDED I WOULD HANDLE THE RADIOS; HE WOULD BE THE PF AND MONITOR THE RADIOS USING THE OVERHEAD SPEAKER. WE WERE GIVEN; AS BEST AS I REMEMBER; A CLRNC TO TAXI FROM THE FBO TO RWY 12R INITIALLY. ANOTHER KING AIR WAS ALSO TAXIING OUT JUST AHEAD OF US. AS WE APCHED TXWY G; WE WERE ASKED BY GND CTL IF WE WERE BEHIND THE OTHER KING AIR. I CONFIRMED WE WERE AND WE WERE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW THE OTHER KING AIR. I READ BACK THAT WE WOULD FOLLOW HIM. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT HE WAS NOT GOING TO RWY 12R; HOWEVER. HE WAS GOING TO RWY 17; WHICH REQUIRED XING RWY 12R. I WAS SOMEWHAT RELIEVED TO BE GIVEN THOSE INSTRUCTIONS AND CONFIDENT THE PF COULD SAFELY CARRY THEM OUT; SO I FOCUSED MORE OF MY ATTN ON THINGS INSIDE THE ACFT. SHORTLY AFTER TURNING ONTO TXWY G; GND CTL TOLD US TO SWITCH OVER TO TWR; WHICH WE DID. THE NEXT TIME I REMEMBER LOOKING OUT; WE HAD TAXIED ONTO RWY 12R FOLLOWING THE OTHER ACFT ACROSS TO RWY 17. THE TWR CTLR SAID; 'ACFT X YOU JUST CROSSED RWY 12R; GO AHEAD AND USE RWY 17. TAXI UP TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE OF RWY 17.' SO WE DID. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: 1) PLT'S LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN ACFT. 2) ONLY HAVING 1 PAIR OF HEADSETS. 3) CONFUSION ON TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. 4) UNFAMILIAR WITH ARPT.
