Narrative
WE WERE PUSHED BACK FROM THE GATE; TAIL N. ON RELEASE FROM GUIDANCE; WE CALLED METERING FOR TAXI. AS INSTRUCTED WE SWITCHED TO GND CTL AND RECEIVED A CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 32L; T10 VIA TXWY A; HOLD SHORT OF A12. AS WE PULLED OUT TOWARD TXWY A AT ABOUT A 45 DEG INTERCEPT; WE CLRED THE AREA TO OUR R TWICE. AS WE WERE STARTING TO ACCELERATE THROUGH ABOUT 4 KTS WITH BREAKAWAY THRUST AND APCHING TXWY A; AN RJ; TAXIING ON TXWY A; APPEARED FROM BEHIND OUR R WING AT A RELATIVELY HIGH TAXI SPD. I REACTED BY APPLYING THE BRAKES AS I FEARED A COLLISION WITH HIM. THE GND CTLR THANKED US FOR STOPPING AND CLRED US TO CONTINUE TAXIING. I ASKED THE FO TO CALL THE CABIN TO SEE IF EVERYONE WAS OK. WE WERE INFORMED THAT 2 FLT ATTENDANTS WERE INJURED. WE REQUESTED PARAMEDICS AND RETURNED TO THE GATE. ONE FLT ATTENDANT HAD A NECK INJURY AND 1 FLT ATTENDANT HAD A BACK INJURY. THEY WERE REMOVED FROM THE FLT UNDER CARE OF THE PARAMEDICS AND WERE REPLACED BY INFLT WITH 2 STANDBY FLT ATTENDANTS. WE THEN PROCEED UNEVENTFULLY TO LHR. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE INJURIES: THE FLT ATTENDANTS WERE STANDING DOING THE SAFETY DEMONSTRATION WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. NO ONE SEATED AND BELTED WAS INJURED. WE WERE NOT APPRAISED OF THE APCHING RJ BY GND CTL. THE RJ APCHED US FROM OUR BLIND SIDE AND DID NOT YIELD TO US. THE RJ'S RELATIVELY HIGH TAXI SPD DID NOT ALLOW US A REASONABLE TIME TO SEE HIM AND STOP IN A NORMAL MANNER.
