FO PF; CAPT PNF. FLT GIVEN RERTE UPON DEP BY DEP CTL. CTR LAST PART OF CLRNC WAS 'CLRED MAD; MAD 341 DEG RADIAL; BRISS DIRECT DUE TO CAP OVER JFK.' DSCNT GIVEN BY CTR TO CROSS 10 MI S OF MAD AT 12000 FT. CAPT GAVE COM DUTY TO FO TO HANDLE PA AND IN-RANGE CALL (CAPT OFF FREQ). CTR CLRED FLT TO 11000 FT. FO MISUNDERSTOOD AND READ BACK 10000 FT. 10000 FT SET IN ALT WINDOW. CTLR MISSED BAD READBACK BY FO. FLT WAS HANDED OFF TO TRACON. CAPT BACK ON FREQ. FO STATED TO CAPT THAT FLT CLRED TO 10000 FT. CAPT CALLED APCH WITH ALT AND INFO. APCH QUESTIONED ALT OF 10000 FT AND ASKED WHO GAVE IT TO US. WE STATED ZBW CTLR WITH READBACK (NO OTHER ACFT ON TCASII; ALT SEPARATION NOT LOST). APCH GAVE DSCNT AND HDG FOR NORMAL VISUAL APCH RWY 6 BDL. UPON DEP FROM BDL; CREW TOLD TO CALL BDL TRACON UPON LNDG. CAPT SPOKE WITH OPS SUPVR BDL TRACON. STATED TAPES WERE REVIEWED AND INDICATED THAT ALT GIVEN BY ZBW WAS 11000 FT AND THAT PLT DID READ BACK 10000 FT AND THAT CTLR MISSED BAD READBACK OF 10000 FT. OPS SUPVR STATED THAT BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF FACILITIES INVOLVED A PLTDEV RPT WOULD BE FILED.
