THE PLT OF A BEECH BARON 58 LANDED ON A RWY CLOSED FOR REPAVING.
Narrative
I LANDED ON RWY 18 AT SOA. THE LNDG WAS NORMAL WITH NO INCIDENTS; ACCIDENTS OR SURPRISES. AFTER LNDG; THE ARPT MGR INFORMED ME THAT THE ARPT WAS CLOSED FOR REPAVING. AFTER CONSULTATION WITH AND CONSENT FROM THE ARPT MGR AND PAVING CONTRACTOR; I DEPARTED THE FIELD. THE PAVING CONTRACTOR CONFIRMED THAT THE RWY SURFACE WAS SOLID AND NORMAL AND THAT THERE WAS NO RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE PAVING WORK OR THE ACFT FROM THE LNDG OR TKOF. I HAD NO NOTICE THAT THE ARPT WAS CLOSED AND MY LNDG THERE WAS INADVERTENT AND NOT DELIBERATE. I NOTED THE FOLLOWING IN CONNECTION WITH THE EVENT: 1) CONSISTENT WITH THE WX FORECAST I OBTAINED ELECTRONICALLY; THE WX AT THE TIME OF LNDG WAS EXCELLENT DAYLIGHT VFR WITH WINDS FROM THE S; 2) ZHU PROVIDED VFR FLT FOLLOWING SHOWING SOA AS THE DEST; BUT PROVIDED NO NOTICE OF ARPT CLOSURE; 3) PRIOR TO MY VFR APCH I OBTAINED WX FROM THE SOA AWOS; WHICH PROVIDED NORMAL WX INFO; BUT NO NOTICE OR ARPT CLOSURE; 4) REPEATED CALLS TO THE SOA UNICOM PRIOR TO LNDG GENERATED NO RESPONSE; WHICH IS NORMAL FOR AFTER HRS OPS; AND 5) THERE WAS NO 'X' OR SIMILAR MARKING ON THE APCH END OF RWY 18. THIS EVENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF NOTICE OF CLOSURE WAS MADE BY ANY OF ZHU; THE SOA AWOS; UNICOM OR AN 'X' ON RWY 18. DUE TO THE EXCELLENT WX FORECAST AND CONDITIONS I DID NOT OBTAIN AN FAA BRIEFING OR FILE A FLT PLAN; EITHER OF WHICH MIGHT ALSO HAVE AVOIDED THE EVENT.
