Synopsis

AN ARJ85 WAS DISCOVERED TO HAVE AN OIL CAN LEFT IN #2 ENG COWLING. HAD PREVIOUS OVERNIGHT LINE CHK WHERE #2 ENG OIL WAS SVCED.

Narrative

ON OCT/MON/04 AT APPROX XA30; I WAS PERFORMING LINE CHK AND DAILY ARJ WALKAROUND PROCS AND INSPECTIONS ON ACFT X ON THE RAMP AT GATE IN ZZZ. BEFORE CLOSING UP THE ENG COWLS; I CHKED ALL 4 ENG OIL LEVELS; AND ADDED 1 QUART OF OIL TO ENG #2. I THEN CLOSED UP THE 4 ENG COWLINGS AND AT THIS POINT MAY HAVE INADVERTENTLY AND MISTAKENLY CLOSED AN OIL CAN IN THE #2 ENG COWLING. I DO NOT REMEMBER DOING THIS; BUT MAY HAVE HAD A MOMENTARY LAPSE IN CONCENTRATION. I DO NOT REMEMBER SEEING AN OIL CAN IN THIS COWLING BUT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THERE PREVIOUSLY; BUT IT BEING DARK; WORKING WITH ONLY A FLASHLIGHT AND THE MANY TASKS I PERFORMED ON THIS ACFT; MAY HAVE MISSED SEEING IT. AS I STATED; I DON'T REMEMBER LEAVING AN OIL CAN IN THE #2 ENG COWLING; AND IF I DID; IT CERTAINLY WASN'T ON PURPOSE. HOWEVER; IF I DID IN FACT LEAVE THIS CAN; IT WAS DUE TO THE AMOUNT AND COMPLEXITY OF THE WORK I PERFORMED ON THIS ACFT AND THE FACT THAT I DID IT IN THE DARK. I REGRET THAT THIS INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED; BUT AGAIN; NOT SURE IN THE RESPONSIBLE PARTY.
