AFTER LNDG CVG ON RWY 18R AND XING RWY 27 ON ROLLOUT; AN MD88 PLT TURNS OFF THE RWY AND CROSSES THE HOLD SHORT LINES FOR RWY 27 WHILE TAXIING BACK TO THE GATE.

Narrative

THE PROB OCCURRED AFTER LNDG AT CINCINNATI ON RWY 18R. I HEARD WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A CLRNC FOR A L TURN ONTO TXWY M FROM RWY 18R AND THEN N ON TXWY D. I CLRED FOR TFC ON RWY 27 AS WE APCHED IT ON TXWY D. THERE WAS NO ACFT ON THE RWY. AS OUR ACFT APCHED THE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 27; THE FO ADVISED THAT WE NEEDED TO HOLD SHORT. I THEN BROUGHT THE ACFT TO A STOP. THE NOSE OF THE ACFT EXTENDED A FEW FT PAST THE LINE. I ADVISED THE TWR THAT WE HAD CROSSED THE LINE AND REQUESTED CLRNC ACROSS RWY 27. THE TWR THEN CANCELLED TKOF CLRNC FOR AN ACFT THAT WAS STILL ON THE TXWY TO RWY 27 AND CLRED US ACROSS. WE CONTINUED ONTO THE GATE. THERE WERE NO FURTHER COMMENTS FROM THE TWR. CLRLY; THE SUSTAINED HIGH WORKLOAD OF THIS FLT ADDED TO THE NORMAL FATIGUE FOR THE LAST FLT OF A FULL DAY IN THE AIR. ALSO; THE DISTR OF AN ILL PAX MAY HAVE PLAYED A ROLE. NEVERTHELESS; I AM VERY ATTUNED TO THE PHRASE 'HOLD SHORT' AND AM VERY SURPRISED THAT I APPARENTLY MISSED THIS INSTRUCTION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 634234: AFTER LNDG RWY 18R AT CVG; EXITED TXWY M. WAS GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO TURN L ON TXWY D; HOLD SHORT RWY 27. READ BACK CLRNC; WAS PERFORMING AFTER LNDG CHKLIST. CAPT DID NOT HEAR THE HOLD SHORT CLRNC. HAD TO YELL TO STOP SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE HE BRAKED ACFT. CROSSED OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINE APPROX 15 FT; CONTACTED GND; AND ACFT TAXIING ONTO RWY 27 WAS TOLD TO CANCEL TKOF CLRNC. AFTER BEING CLRED TO CROSS RWY; TAXIED TO GATE. FO SHOULD HAVE CONFIRMED CAPT HEARD AND UNDERSTOOD CLRNC BEFORE DOING CHKLIST.
