Narrative
WHILE FLYING ON AN IFR FLT PLAN ATC ASKED ME TO ACCEPT THE ILS RWY 3 APCH INTO MKC. THE WX AT THE TIME WAS CEILINGS ABOUT 1200-1600 FT AND THE WINDS WERE FROM THE S. I SAID 'UNABLE; NOT ADF OR DME EQUIPPED.' I THEN REQUESTED THE ILS RWY 19. HE SAID HE'D PASS THE REQUEST ON AND AFTER A MIN ASKED IF I COULD ACCEPT THE 'VOR.' I WAS LOOKING AT THE NOAA BOUND APCH PLATES AT THE TIME AND WAS LOOKING AT THE VOR RWY 19 APCH PLATE. I SAID 'YES.' THE CTLR GAVE ME A VECTOR OF 70 DEGS AND TOLD ME TO EXPECT THE VOR APCH. HE BEGAN VECTORING ME AND BY THE TIME I REALIZED HE WAS VECTORING ME FOR THE VOR RWY 3 APCH I WAS INTERCEPTING THE FINAL COURSE. I REALIZED I'D MADE A MISTAKE; BUT INSTEAD OF TELLING HIM I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE THE APCH I ASKED HIM IF HE COULD IDENT KAWED INTXN FOR ME. HE ANSWERED IN THE AFFIRMATIVE. BEFORE THE KAWED INTXN HE SENT ME OVER TO TWR AND THEY ASKED ME IF I NEEDED THEM TO CALL THE IAF. I SAID YES. THEY DID SO AND I MADE THE LNDG WITHOUT INCIDENT. I SHOULD HAVE REFUSED THE APCH AND ASKED FOR THE ILS RWY 19 APCH. HOWEVER; I DID STATE TO THE CTLR THAT I WAS NOT ADF OR DME EQUIPPED AND ASSUMED THAT HE KNEW THAT WAS NECESSARY FOR THE VOR RWY 3 APCH AS WELL AS THE ILS RWY 3 APCH.
