B737 DEP FROM BNA RWY 2L TAXIING INTO POS NOTICES AN ACR ON SHORT FINAL AND CLRING THE RWY. TWR CLRS THE ARR TO GO AROUND.

Narrative

WE WERE TAXIING TO RWY 2L AT NASHVILLE BEHIND AN MD80 SERIES ACFT FOR AN IFR DEP IN IMC. THE CURRENT ATIS WAS RPTING WX OF FEW CLOUDS AT 300 FT; 5500 FT BROKEN; VISIBILITY 2 1/2 MI. FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE; HOWEVER; THE WX SEEMED MORE LIKE 300 FT BROKEN THAN FEW. PRIOR TO TURNING THE CORNER AT TXWY B1; WE WERE CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD IN FRONT OF THE MD80 JET. I RESPONDED OVER THE RADIO WITH THE CALL 'POS AND HOLD RWY 2L; COMPANY NUMBER.' AFTER XING THE RWY 2L HOLD SHORT LINE TAXIING PERPENDICULAR TO THE RWY; I WAS CLRING THE FINAL AREA TO THE L AND NOTICED A JET ACFT ON SHORT FINAL. I BROUGHT THE ACFT ON FINAL TO THE ATTN OF THE CAPT AND WE EXPEDITIOUSLY EXITED THE RWY AREA ONTO TXWY A1. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING OUR INITIATION TO CLR THE RWY; WE HEARD NASHVILLE TWR COMMAND COMPANY NUMBER TO 'GO AROUND.' THEY IMMEDIATELY EXECUTED THE GAR AND SUBSEQUENTLY MADE A RADIO CALL SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT; 'COMPANY NUMBER ON THE GO.' TWR GAVE THEM A VECTOR AND THEN STATED ON THE RADIO 'SORRY ABOUT THAT.' SLOWLY TAXIING N ON TXWY A; WE REVERSED DIRECTION AT THE INTXN OF TXWY C1 AND TXWY A; PROCEEDED BACK TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE ADJACENT TO TXWY A; AND THEREAFTER CLRED FOR TKOF. WE PROCEEDED UNEVENTFULLY TO MSY ARPT. UPON TERMINATION OF THE FLT; CAPT CALLED NASHVILLE TWR AND WAS INFORMED OVER THE TELEPHONE THAT THE INCIDENT WAS 'COMPLETELY NASHVILLE TWR'S FAULT.' THE TWR CTLR HAD INCORRECTLY THOUGHT THAT THE OTHER FLT HAD BEEN ON AN APCH TO RWY 2C; AND THAT THEY WERE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF GATHERING FACTS.
