PA28 PLT STATES HE WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE HOLD SHORT LINES AT GYR.
Narrative
ON 11/SAT/2004 APPROX AT XA:00; I LANDED ON RWY 21 AT GYR. I EXITED THE RWY AT TXWY A6. TWR DIRECTED ME TO CONTACT GND CTL. I DID NOT SEE THE HOLD SHORT LINES; HOWEVER; SO I CONTINUED TO TAXI ON TXWY A6 IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIND AND PASS THE HOLD SHORT LINES SO AS TO BE CLR OF THE RWY. I CONTINUED TAXIING UNTIL I REACHED TXWY ALPHA. AT THIS POINT; TWR CALLED ME AND ADVISED THAT I HAD TAXIED TOO FAR AND THAT I NEEDED TO CONTACT GND CTL. I DID SO AND THEN TAXIED TO PARKING WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I NEVER SAW THE HOLD LINES AFTER LNDG. I ASSUME I TAXIED RIGHT OVER THEM. UPON DEPARTING GYR LATER THAT EVENING; I NOTICED THAT THE HOLD SHORT LINES AT ANOTHER INTXN WERE BARELY VISIBLE. I BELIEVE SEVERAL FACTORS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS INCIDENT; INCLUDING THE TIME OF DAY (NIGHT); MY LACK OF NIGHT FLYING EXPERIENCE (20 HRS); AND THE CONDITION OF THE HOLD SHORT LINES AT GYR (FADED PAINT; UNLIT AT NIGHT; ETC). AS A CORRECTIVE ACTION; I PLAN TO TAKE A RWY SAFETY PROGRAM. I WILL ALSO ATTEMPT TO GAIN MORE EXPERIENCE IN NIGHT FLYING AND I WILL PAY CLOSER ATTENTION WHEN TAXIING AT NIGHT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: PLT USES THE HOLD SHORT LINE CROSSING TO CONTACT GND CTL. WHEN THE PLT DID NOT CONTACT GND CTL THE LCL CTLR TOLD THE PLT TO CONTACT GND CTL. PLT STATES ALL THE HOLD SHORT LINES HE SAW WERE FADED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAINTED.
