Narrative
ON A 'B' SVC CHK TO ACFT X B747-200 AT ZZZZ; A RPT ARRIVED FROM BOEING TO ACCOMPLISH A SECOND-DEGREE CORROSION THAT WAS FOUND DURING THE 'B' CHK ON THE L-HAND WING UPPER SKIN BTWN STATIONS WS389 AND WS419. THE INSTRUCTIONS WERE FOLLOWED AND ACCOMPLISHED AS PER THE BOEING REQUEST WITHOUT ANY INCIDENT OR FURTHER PROB. I PERSONALLY RELEASED THE ACFT IN AN AIRWORTHY; NORMAL SIT AND THE ACFT WAS RELEASED WITH ALL THE 'B' CHK RELATED INFO IN A NORMAL AND ROUTINE MANNER. LATER ON; I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ACFT SHOULD HAVE HAD A FORM X COMPLETED BEFORE THE ACFT HAD BEEN RELEASED. THE ACFT WAS HELD IN ZZZZ1 (AFTER ITS FIRST FLT FROM ZZZZ) FOR A MAINT PROB (NOT RELATED WITH THIS ITEM) FOR 2 DAYS. DURING THAT TIME THE FORM X WAS PRODUCED BY ENGINEERING AND THE QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CTL CHIEF SUPVR DURING THAT TIME AT OUR ZZZ BASE AND DELIVERED TO THE PROPER AUTHS. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE COMPANY HAS DISCLOSED ON THIS PROB TO THE FAA AUTHS; AND THAT NO FURTHER ACTIONS WILL BE TAKEN. I WAS REQUESTED TO WRITE A STATEMENT BY MY QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CTL CHIEF INSPECTOR AT THE ZZZ BASE; WHICH I HAVE DONE; MAINLY STATING THAT I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THIS SIT BEFORE RELEASING THE ACFT. ALSO FOR YOUR INFO; I ALREADY HAVE A LETTER ON MY FILE FOR AN INCORRECT PART NUMBER INSTALLED ON A FUEL BOOST WING PUMP; THE ACFT IN QUESTION WAS FINALLY RELEASED BEFORE FLT WITH THE PUMP IN QUESTION INOP.
