B767-300ER WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT FAN AIR MODULATING VALVE INSTALLED ON THE L ENG.

Narrative

ACFT ARRIVED FOR A TRANSIT CHK AND OTHER MAINT. ACFT HAD AN INBOUND PIREP ON LOG PAGE ITEM 001; 'L ENG BLEED OVERHEAT FOLLOWED BY L ENG BLEED OFF MESSAGE DURING CLBOUT.' RECOVERED L ENG AT CRUISE ALT PER QRH. ACFT WAS MOVED OFF THE GATE TO THE ACR MAINT AREA. MR X AND I WERE REASSIGNED TO WORK ON THE PIREP. I WAS TAKEN TO ACFT X THEN LEFT THERE AND MR X WENT TO GET OTHER TRANSPORTATION. MR X RETURNED WITH THE PART WHICH I HELPED HIM REMOVE AND REPLACE AND REPLACE THE FAN AIR VALVE ON THE L ENG. MR X WENT UP TO START THE PAPERWORK AND I FILLED OUT THE PARTS TAG. I NOTED THAT THE PART HAD A DIFFERENT DASH NUMBER; BUT THE BASE NUMBER WAS THE SAME; WHICH IS NOT UNUSUAL; AND THOUGHT THE PART WAS OK. LATER THAT DAY; ZZZ LINE STORES NOTIFIED MAINT THAT THE MANUFACTURER'S PART NUMBER OF THE REMOVED PART (A FAN AIR VALVE) WAS DIFFERENT THAN THE MANUFACTURER'S PART NUMBER OF THE INSTALLED PART Y. MAINT CONTACTED MAINT CTLR AND A SET-UP WAS ADDED TO REPLACE THE VALVE UPON ARR AT ITS DEST DUE TO AN INCORRECT PART INSTALLED.
