FLT CREW OF MD80 EXPERIENCE COMPRESSOR STALLS FROM R ENG AFTER TKOF IN ICING CONDITIONS. DECLARE EMER AND RETURN TO DEP ARPT.
Narrative
WE WERE PARTIALLY DEICED AT THE GATE AND TAXIED TO THE DEICE PAD FOR A COMPLETE DEICING. PRIOR TO ENG START AT THE GATE; WE WERE INFORMED BY GND PERSONNEL THAT BOTH ENG INTAKES WERE CLR OF SNOW/ICE. AFTER THE SECOND DEICING; BOTH ENGS WERE STARTED; ENG ANTI-ICE TURNED ON. FLAPS CYCLED DOWN AND UP TO ENSURE FULL FUNCTION. WE THEN TAXIED TO RWY 27L WITH FLAPS UP; COMPLETED TAXI AND BEFORE TKOF CHKLISTS AND SET FLAPS FOR TKOF. TKOF ON RWY 27L WAS UNEVENTFUL UNTIL APPROX 500 FT AGL. WE THEN EXPERIENCED A SERIES OF COMPRESSOR STALLS ON THE R ENG. THE CAPT DISCONNECTED THE AUTOTHROTTLE; CLEANED UP THE ACFT AT APPROX 1100 FT MSL AND CONTINUED TO CLB TO 3000 FT MSL WITH THE R ENG AT A REDUCED PWR SETTING THAT GREATLY REDUCED OR ELIMINATED THE COMPRESSOR STALLS. WE DECLARED AN EMER AND RETURNED TO ZZZ FOR LNDG ON RWY 27L; OPERATING THE R ENG AT REDUCED PWR (BELOW 1.4 EPR) THROUGH THE LNDG. LNDG WT WAS APPROX 141000 LBS. TOUCHDOWN WAS VERY SMOOTH AT LESS THAN 200-300 FPM. R ENG WAS SHUT DOWN WHEN WE WERE CLR OF THE RWY. ZZZ CFR INSPECTED THE ACFT AND SAID THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF SMOKE OR FIRE. TAXIED BACK TO THE GATE SINGLE ENG. ZZZ MAINT PERSONNEL RPTED DAMAGE TO THE R ENG COMPRESSOR BLADES.
