Narrative
AT ABOUT XA10; I ENTERED A L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 35 AT HALLA'S FIELD AND MADE A FAIRLY SMOOTH APCH AND LNDG. I TAXIED OVER TO PICK UP MY CLIENT AND BACK-TAXIED TO RWY 35. DURING CLBOUT AFTER TKOF ROLL ON RWY 35 AT HALLA'S FIELD; I ENCOUNTERED A SUDDEN ENVIRONMENT CHANGE TO MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB ACCOMPANIED BY AN APPARENT VORTEX POSSIBLY CAUSED BY A WIND TURBINE LOCATED 6000 FT N OF THE END OF RWY 35 AND 600 FT W OF THE EXTENDED CTRLINE OF THE RWY. WINDS ACCORDING TO THE ABILENE ATIS WERE 020 DEGS AT 20 KTS GUSTING TO 30 KTS. THIS OCCURRED AT 200 FT ABOVE THE RWY SURFACE AND CHANGED THE CONDITION OF FLT FROM SMOOTH TO VERY TURBULENT ACCOMPANIED BY A ROLL OF THE ACFT TO THE L. I COUNTERACTED BY LEVELING THE ACFT TO INCREASE AIRSPD TO MANEUVERING SPD AND BY APPLYING FULL AILERON DEFLECTION AND ASSOCIATED RUDDER DEFLECTION TO THE R. I WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY CHANGE THE HDG TO PRODUCE AN E GND TRACK PERPENDICULAR TO THE RWY CTRLINE. AFTER I HAD DEPARTED THE ROUGH AIR; I RESUMED CLB TO 3100 FT MSL AND PROCEEDED WITH MY ASSIGNMENT. AT THE END OF THE ASSIGNMENT; I ENTERED A R BASE FOR A FAIRLY SMOOTH APCH AND LNDG ON RWY 35. I CHOSE R TFC IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY SINCE IT KEPT ME AT THE FURTHEST DISTANCE FROM THE WIND TURBINES.
