Synopsis

AN MD80 PRIOR TO DEP WAS FOUND WITH A NOSE LNDG GEAR RUNNING HYD LEAK. TECHNICIAN DISCONNECTED LEAKING FITTING; RECONNECTED AND TIGHTENED. LEAK CHK OK.

Narrative

IN REGARDS TO THE EVENT ON ACFT X; IT ARRIVED AS A ROUTINE OVERNIGHT CHK. I SVCED THE OILS; GOT THE LOGBOOK AND WALKED AWAY. ABOUT 30 MINS LATER; WHILE I WAS DOING A WALKAROUND ON ANOTHER ACFT; MAINT CTL CALLED OUT OVER THE RADIO THAT ACFT X WAS GOING TO GO BACK OUT. I WENT BACK TO ACFT X; STARTED MY WALKAROUND. AS I WAS DOING MY WALKAROUND; THE FLT CREW TURNED ON HYDS. IT WAS THEN THAT I NOTICED FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE NOSEWHEEL WELL. I NOTIFIED THE FO; AND ASKED HIM TO WRITE IT UP. THEY TURNED OFF HYDS AND I WENT TO GET TOOLS AND GLOVES AND SOLVENT. I CLEANED THE AREA WITH 'TURBINAID' AND WIPED THE AREA DOWN. WIPED OFF THE NOSE STRUT AND TIRES. I HAD THE FLT CREW TURN ON HYDS; VISUALLY IDENTED WHERE THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM. HAD THE FLT CREW TURN OFF HYDS. LOOSENED THE LINES OF THE FITTINGS THAT WERE LEAKING; TIGHTENED THE FITTINGS THAT WERE LEAKING AND THEN RE-TIGHTENED THE LINES; CLEANED OFF THE AREA WITH TURBINAID; AND WIPED THE AREA DOWN. HAD THE FLT CREW TURN ON HYDS. I VISUALLY VERIFIED THAT THERE WERE NO LEAKS COMING FROM THE AREA.
