A B737-700 PARKED AT GATE 20 MINS AFTER SHUTDOWN A SMALL FIRE WAS NOTED IN REAR SECTION #1 ENG AFT TURBINE 10-12 O'CLOCK POS. FLAMES DIED OUT.

Narrative

AFTER LNDG IN ZZZ; WE PARKED THE JET AT GATE AND ACCOMPLISHED THE ENG SHUTDOWN AND ASSOCIATED CHKLIST. SINCE I WAS RECEIVING A LINE CHK; I ACCOMPLISHED THE WALKAROUND INSPECTION. THERE WAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF EXHAUST SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE #1 ENG; AND THE FIRE DEPT HAD BEEN CALLED. I TOLD THEM TO GET A GND FIRE EXTINGUISHER; AND WENT TO VISUALLY GET A LOOK. UPON INSPECTION; I DID FIND FLAMES ON THE REAR TURBINE BLADES OF THE #1 ENG FROM THE 10-12 O'CLOCK POS; HOWEVER; IT LOOKED TO ME AS IF SOME RESIDUE (OIL OR FUEL) WAS BURNING; NOT A FIRE THAT WAS BEING CONTINUALLY FED. THE FLAMES QUICKLY DIED OUT ON THEIR OWN APPROX 15 SECONDS LATER. THE FIRE DEPT CALL-OUT WAS CANCELED BEFORE THEY COULD RESPOND. I CALLED MAINT CTL AND THEY CONTACTED CONTRACT MAINT. UPON HIS INSPECTION; NO DAMAGE WAS FOUND; AND PER MAINT CTL'S REQUEST; THE FLT CREW PERFORMED AN IDLE ENG RUN AT THE GATE. ALL ENG INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL; AND THERE WERE NO EGT EXCEEDANCES. THE RETURN FLT TO ZZZ1 WAS UNEVENTFUL; WITH ALL NORMAL ENG INDICATIONS.
