AN A319 WINGLET STRUCK A PORTABLE PAX LOADING STAIR ON A RAMP CONFINED BY 2 ACFT AND UNDER THE OBSERVATION OF 2 WINGWALKERS AND A MARSHALLER.
Narrative
ADVISED BY OPS ABOUT A VERY TIGHT PARKING PLAN. SPOT X WAS OUR PLANNED PARKING SPOT WITH SPOT Y OCCUPIED BY A JET AND A DASH 8 BETWEEN SPOT X AND Y. THE PLAN WAS TO MARSHALL AROUND THE DASH 8 AND PARK NEAR SPOT X. GND EQUIP WAS STATIONED TO THE L OF SPOT X. ONE MARSHALLER AND TWO WINGWALKERS WERE USED. THE MARSHALLER GUIDED US AROUND THE DASH 8 WITH PLENTY OF ROOM; BUT A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO THE GND EQUIP. THE LEAD MARSHALLER DID NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDANCE FROM THE L WINGWALKER ABOUT THE CLOSE GND EQUIP. THE L WINGWALKER WAS NOT IN VIEW FROM THE COCKPIT. WE FOLLOWED THE MARSHALLER'S GUIDANCE TO PARKING AND STOPPED ON HIS COMMAND. AFTER PARKING WE DISCOVERED THE L SAIL HAD STRUCK AN AIRSTAIR CANOPY. THE SAIL MISSED CLEARING THE CANOPY BY ABOUT 2 INCHES IN HEIGHT. THERE DID NOT SEEM TO BE ANY DAMAGE TO THE ACFT. THE CAPT SAID HE COULD NOT SEE THE WINGWALKER OR THE WINGTIP DUE TO NIGHT CONDITIONS; THE TIGHT QUARTERS; AND THE NEED TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE LEAD MARSHALLER. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 662341: THE GUIDANCE BY THE GUIDEMAN POSITIONED US WELL CLEAR OF THE DASH 8; BUT WAS TOO CLOSE TO THE GND EQUIP; INCLUDING A MOBILE LOADING BRIDGE WITH A CANOPY. DUE TO THE DARKNESS AND MY INABILITY TO SEE THE WINGWALKER BELOW AND BEHIND MY WING; I FOLLOWED THE GUIDEMAN'S GUIDANCE EXCLUSIVELY. AS I STOPPED THE AIRPLANE ON HIS COMMAND; I FELT A SLIGHT JOLT. AFTER DEPLANING; WE DISCOVERED THAT THE L WING SAIL HAD MADE CONTACT WITH THE CANOPY OF THE MOBILE LOADING BRIDGE.
