Synopsis

A B777-200 IN TKOF THRUST BEFORE FLAP RETRACTION HAD L ENG EGT EXCEEDENCE FOR 2 PT 2 SECONDS.

Narrative

STILL IN TKOF THRUST; BEFORE FLAP RETRACTION; L ENG EGT WENT TO 695. IT WAS ONLY THERE FOR 2.2 SECONDS (PER EXCEEDANCE PAGE IN EICAS). DISENGAGED AUTOTHROTTLE AND PULLED IT BACK TO ABOUT 75%. TEMP BECAME NORMAL WITHIN SECONDS AFTER FLAP RETRACTION; IN CLB THRUST; RE-ENGAGED AUTOTHROTTLES AND TEMP WAS NORMAL. ALL OTHER PARAMETERS REMAINED NORMAL AT ALL TIMES. CALLED DISPATCH AND GOT A PATCH TO MAINT CTL. READ THE EXCEEDANCE NUMBERS TO HIM. HE SAID THAT THE ENG WOULD NEED TO BE INSPECTED AND BORESCOPED WITHIN 60 HRS; AND THAT THERE COULD BE UP TO 7 SUCH OCCURRENCES. WE AGREED THAT EVERYTHING WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AND CONTINUED. WHEN WE WERE DEPARTING ZZZ2 ON JUL/TUE/05; WE LEARNED THAT THE OUTBOUND FLT WITH THAT ACFT WAS CANCELED ABOUT 6 HRS BEFORE WE EVEN ARRIVED AT ZZZ2 AND FERRIED. I ASKED THE MECH AT ZZZ2 WHO HAD MET OUR FLT WHAT HAPPENED. HE SAID HE HAD BORESCOPED IT AND IT WAS NORMAL. HE SAID HE THOUGHT THAT FLT OPS HAD DECIDED TO FERRY IT OUT OF THERE. MY CREW IS WONDERING WHY THE OUTBOUND WAS CANCELED AND; IF IT WAS SOMETHING CRITICAL; WHY WE WEREN'T CONTACTED ENRTE. AN HR OR TWO AFTER WE HAD SPOKEN TO DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL WE GOT AN ACARS MESSAGE FROM THE DUTY MGR SUGGESTING THIS RPT. DID HE KNOW SOMETHING WE DIDN'T?
